i had bought a electric pump after my manual pump broke(it was old from my sister in law) and hated it! i found that the manual pump gave me more control on the flow and i ws able to pump more faster... i ended up buying another avent pump and i wouldnt use any other kind! it was one of the most expensive but i LOVE it... i was mad to have waste the money of the other one, i thought i could have use the electric one on one side when i nursed from the other, it didnt work so well and was noisy! it was supposed to be quiet... but on that note... the manual one can be noisy too!
Cleaning wise the manual one was easier...
I 100% all the way would recomend the Avent brand manual pump!
I had the Lansinoh as well and it worked great, but didn't really have the suction to do both sides at once so I would have to do one and then the other. Kind of a pain as it added 15 minutes to pumping each time.
I gave that one away and after talking to friends picked up a Medela pump in style. I already fired it up and that thing seems to have plenty of suction.
I used Medela Symphony for the first 8 months and it worked wonders for me. Of course nothing is as good as actual natural breastfeeding, that's the best stimulant for the brain, but if you need to I think Medela is great. Maybe you should also ask the Dr how to increase milk supply in any other way. I know you have to drink a lot of water and stay well hydrated. Good luck!
I bought a Lansinoh Affinity, and in my opinion it's just as good as the medela. I never used a Medela, but I LOVE mine. It has all the same features as a the Medela from what I've heard. It has a letdown setting that starts off with a fast short s*ck phase that lasts two minutes, and a button to put it right to the regualr pumping phase, there's I think 6 or 7 levels of how hard it s*cks, and another 6 or 7 for how fast. It's very easy to use, it has the option to use it as a double pump or single. The only issue I've ever had with it is it's not THAT quiet. BUT I don't care about how quiet it is...I paid about 150 after tax for it, and have found it in Target, Walmart, Babies R Us. You can buy storage bags instead of bottles. I used it for a while in the begining after I had my daughter, she's 9 1/2 months old now. I have issues with supply and don't make enough to pump and store milk, but in the beginning when we I was still adjusting to how much I needed to make I had more than enough a few times, and used it...I plan on using it for the next baby too. I had a cheapo one with my son, and it didn't work at all! I don't remember the brand but I definitely recommend the Affinity! It's cheaper than the Medela, and works great!
I havent purchased one yet either but i was told as well that Medela is the way to go.. they are expensive but that it is night and day comparedto other pumps
I'm 34 weeks but I got the Medela Pump In Style Advanced Double Electric based on a lot of recommendations from my friends. I guess it's one of the best out there. I was told the worst thing to do is "go cheap" on a pump because your supply will be greatly affected. Sorry I know I don't have any personal experience but this is what was recommended to me.
