What does a high PAPP-A level mean?

I have had my 12 week screening, It has come back low risk 1 in 26000 for downs. Nuchal measurement was 1.6mm, hcg level 0.86 MoM, but PAPP-A level has come back as 4.35MoM which is 4 times the average. There is loads of info on low levels being linked to Downs but im worried that there is something else wrong with such high levels. Any one have any ideas?
Thanks
Caroline

I had either a high pappa or low - sorry baby brain - but I came back with a 1/78 chance of trisomy 18.  I did not do the amnio as she shows no physical markers and this is a fatal disease - when I received the results of the high risk - I realized no matter what I would let things play out the way they were meant to be.... are you going to be getting the second set of bloodwork at 20 something weeks... ? Good Luck and try not to worry - there are several factors that can affect the levels of those results that they do not calculate into it...

I remember my triple marker screening (a whole 11 years ago though!) came back that my son had a 1 in 56 chance of having Down's Syndrome.  I had an amniocentesis done and they confirmed that he was just fine.  I wish I could be more help though.  Good luck and please keep us posted!!
