I had a c-section in the morning, my doctor made me get up and walk 2-3 rounds of the hospital dorm corridors, made me go up and down a flight of stairs, told me to take a hot shower before I go to bed. It was excruciating pain that day. BUT- the next day I was comfortable. I only had pain when turning in bed, coughing and sneezing. By 7th day post-op, he made me bend at my stomach to pick things off the floor.
I was driving by Day 10.
I think the sooner you get up after a c-section, the faster you heal but your doctor must be confident in the way he has stitched you up.

I started working out after my baby was around 5 months and it did NOT hurt at all. I ran 20 minutes, did 50-100 ab crunches a day and a few minutes of planks/pilates.
I also wore a post-natal belt for 5-6 hours a day since 3 months after my delivery and that helped tighten the ab muslces.
In short- NO pain when I finally started working out, but you have got to stay flexible throughout.
