Chance of miscarriage

I'm six and a half wks pregnant with my first child. My biggest fear so far is miscarriage. I hate to worry so much because I know stress can cause miscarriage itself. Is there any way I can ease this fear? I'm almost 23, active, stable long term relationship, no history of miscarriage in family, quit smoking day before pregnancy confirmation, non drinker, no drugs. But this is my first child out of MY uterus. (i have two stepsons) oh, and I started taking prenatal vitamins before conception. I would really appreciate any advice or comments. I just want to know what to expect or just to squash this constant lingering fear. Thanks in advance!

Miscarriage has always been a constant fear for me, even before I experienced one.  Not sure why it happens, but it is normal...especially if you've wanted to get pregnant for a long time.  After we had our miscarriage it was hard to imagine ever carrying a baby to term.  We are due in a few weeks...but I constantly worried about miscarriage from the beginning.  Even now!

All I can say is that your thoughts are normal.  However, each week is a milestone.  It helped me to set specific milestones.  First was 8 weeks when we saw the heartbeat.  Then was 12 weeks when we were officially in the 2nd trimester.  Then was 16 weeks when we found out the gender.  Then was 24 weeks when our baby has at least a possibility of surviving outside the womb.  Then we held out for 28 weeks when his chances of survival were 95%.  Our current goal is to make it to full term - 37 week (only 11 more days!).

Keep praying - and have a strong support system!  OH - I almost forgot.  We got a heart doppler to have at home.  I used it everyday starting at 10 weeks until I could constantly feel him move.  It was a life saver.  I'd wake up, pull it out, hear his heart and him move around and I was able to start my day with little worry.
