Cure for headaches

I am 28w3d and I have been having terrible headaches for the last several weeks. At my last dr appt I asked my dr about them and he said that there is no medical cause for them and to relax and take it easy. He said I could take Tylenol and for night take a Tylenol with a benadryl but it is not getting better. I called them and they said there's not much else they can do. Has anyone's dr given them a prescription for headaches or suggested anything to do to help ease them? I have gone to the optometrist and got my rx changed and that hasn't helped. Any more suggestions?? I'm open to anything at this point! Thanks!!

For me what I do when I'm having a migrain I put an ice cold wash cloth over my eyes n lay down in a dark room and that usually takes it away n I doze off, u culd take what he told u plus do what I just said n see how it works!! It always works for me and I have a history of headaches n migraines, also my one doctor told me to put my feet in ice cold water and put my hands in hot water at the same time, that has worked once for me.

oh gosh im sorry your having this trouble... there isnt much to take during pregnancy, as you found out already :(  the only things i can think of to help would be resting when you need to, drinking plenty of water (very important) also if you watch what your diet consists of it could possibly be related to that... i know different foods can trigger headaches but you kinda have to rule certain ones out (a friend will get a full blown migrane from cheese everytime) a cool wash cloth on the face can help, or heating pad(dotn over heat yourself),warm bath, ice pack, massage, or trip to the chiropractor, making sure you have the right footwear if you are on your feet a lot... jsut a note to get the okay from your Dr for some of these, they should be aware and approve first..

i know there are so many things to look into that can cause a headache... but if you journal what exactly you do in a day and try to track when exactly they come on it may help...

If it is due to the pregnancy hormones themselves then im sorry to say that there isnt much you can do but if you can rule out any other triggers at least its worth an effort

There are actually quite a lot of pregnancy-safe pain medication and migraine medications that can be taken during pregnancy. if the tylenol/benedryl combination is not working, speak to your OB about other options or ask for a referral to a neurologist.

This is my 3rd pregnancy and I've had to have my migraines treated with all 3 so trust me I know that there are many options, but you  need to make sure that you have spoken to your OB about exactly how much they're impacting you.

Your neurologist will also be able to give a bunch of non-medication tips for coping with the migraines, so a neurology referral is never a bad idea with severe headaches.

I asked my dr about high blood pressure and possibly having pre eclampsia and the tests came back negative.

I am trying to track down a chiropractor where I live that accepts our insurance since the one I used to go to retired but in the tiny little crap hole town I live in I'm not having much luck :/

I will ask about a neurologist at my next appt if he can't help me pinpoint some other cause.

I usually wake up with them and they get a bit better as the day goes on until about noon then they come back full force til bed time. Any bright lights and loud noises literally make my head throb. I'm not one to go to the er over anything. Last time I went I was 8 and my arm was broken in 3 places. I think that is the only time I have ever gone. I have an awesome dr but I think he is trying to play it safe with any meds I take since I have had several miscarriages but I have to get these to go away. My husband is in the oilfield and is gone monday-Friday so I have stuff to do on my own that isn't getting done because of these darn things :/

Oh man girl definitely sounds like migraines (especially the sensitivities and waking up with them) and I can relate more than you know!

Message me if you want me to tell you what kinds of treatments that I was given (and am currently on) during pregnancy. But I really would insist that your doctor take the pain seriously. Pain releases cortisol (a stress hormone) into our system, and it goes directly through the placental barrier and affects the baby...so getting the pain under control is vital. Migraines also mess with your blood pressure and can get rather nasty if left untreated, so please make sure your doctor finds a solution you're both comfortable with. Painkillers aren't the only solution, but they can be an effective part of a greater treatment plan, and there are MANY safe to be prescribed during pregnancy.

best of luck to you..so sorry you're hurting!

I take excedrin tension headache, it's acetaminophen (same as Tylenol) and has caffeine which makes the blood pump to your brain faster and really helps my headaches. I only take one dose a day and don't drink any caffeine though because two pills has 130 mg of caffeine. I swear though they make me feel so much better!

I have had this problem too throughout my pregnancy. (16 weeks along) Normally its common for me to have a migraine a few times a year, but now I get one every WEEK. It's exhausting, I know how you feel because it seems nothing really helps a migraine except time. It usually hits on my one full day off too (go figure) so I get zero sleep that day, then I usually lie down in a dark room with cold packs alternating between my forehead and back of the head/neck. Also drink plenty of fluids....I'll drink as much OJ as I can stand those days. But I'm with you, so far last week and this week I was migraine free so maybe with the second trimester there is relief...everyone says I'm lucky I don't have morning sickness but let me tell you migraines are a sickness themself!

In the book my doc gave me it said to try getting massages but tell them your pregnant same with going to the chiropractor. Which always used to help my headaches when there was no cause for them

I tried the cold compress and that just made it worse :/

I am going to call around and see if I can find a chiropractor tomorrow even if I have to go out of town. I LOVED my old one, he also used acupuncture and that helped alot too.

There is a lady in town that does AMAZING massages but charges a fortune, I might have to talk to the hubby about one though if nothing else helps :)
