Delayed period

hi all.. im married and 29yrs old.  My periods are delayed no for 6days. I have no idea about this. I used to have regular periods and the interval is 30 to 32 days..
I had my last period on 27th september 2010. We r not planning to have a baby n we had safe sex everytime we want to.
During mid week of october i had safe sex and next consecutive two days i had blood spotting in my discharge.
Now  my periods r delayed and i dont have any of the symptoms of pregnancy other than usual menstrual cramps n slight backache. I recently gained 5pounds too. I took home pregnancy test and it came out negative.
Please help with suggestions? Iam confused...

I've had similar cycles, ranging for 28 days just recently to 36 days two months ago.  As sherrycoup mentioned, stress, travel, sickness, new medication, etc. can delay ovulation thereby delaying AF.

The light spotting that you experienced could have been breakthrough bleeding caused by the cervix getting hit during intercourse.  It happens every now and then.  The pregnancy symptoms you're feeling can be so confusing, because they're the same symptoms of when AF visits.  The weight gain is probably from water retention, since most healthy pregnancy weight gain happens after 2 mos. - 5 lbs. would be excessive for the first month of pregnancy.  Give it another few days, AF is most likely on her way!  If not, do another HPT.  Good luck!
