This is certainly understandable. When is your baby due? Have you had a discussion about this with your delivering doctor? Research is obviously limited at this time. They are not showing newborns to be infected during utero which is good news. However, a baby could be infected once born along with the mother. In fact, mom can pass it herself to newborn if she is a carrier.
If you are pregnant, you should do your very best to socially distance to prevent getting covid-19. They have found a bit of a correlation between birth mothers having it and premature labor. A severe respiratory illness would make you worry about lack of oxygen for mom and hence, baby in utero which presents worries of developmental delays but that is unknown at this time. Fever needs to be assessed carefully during pregnancy as well. Also, a high fever can lead to dehydration which leads to preterm labor so important for expectant moms to hydrate. You also would want to do everything you can to promote a strong immune system at this time.
If you give birth, they may test the mother if she has any symptoms. If positive, they will isolate the baby from mom. Otherwise, proper precautions will be taken in order to do their very best to make sure new mom and new baby do not contract the virus during their time in the hospital. This is assuming that you are not having a midwife/home birth. https://www.healthline.com/health-news/if-youre-pregnant-heres-what-to-know-about-the-coronavirus#What-happens-after-I-give-birth?
I’m in labor now. I’m so scared i have a mask on the whole time. I’ve been in contractions for 12 hours every 10 mins and I’m alone :( my baby also has one kidney that doesn’t function.
Oh gosh sweetie!!!! I'm sorry you are alone. You are waiting until you are 5 minutes apart to go in? It's been 17 hours now. I'll be thinking of you. Hope all is well. hugs
