Experiences with premmies?

So I need some peace of mind. the past few days I have been in and out of the hospital to stop labor. I will be 34 weeks this Friday but I am terrified of the nicu. My last measurement  (2 weeks ago )she was 4.10 estimated pounds but with my first the estimation was off. I have had 2 steroid shots to help develop her lungs. I am just worrying a bit anyone have similar experiences. I have had complicated pregnancies but my first was full term though he was tiny 6.11 pounds. I know we are going to have her soon so trying not to worry about being in the nicu.I have also had gestational diabetes high blood pressure and a cerclage with this pregnancy.

I had my 1st at 34 weeks, steroid ahoys 2 weeks earlier (when my water broke) and he was only in the NICU for 6 days.  Weighed 5 lbs 10 oz.  The only tubes he had were the feeding tubed they put down his throat for the first few feedings until he learned the suck reflex.  He had a heart rate monitor, and those were the only wires.  Everything came off before we went home and he was able to maintain body temp in an open bassinet.  He turned out to be a really fat baby and now is a healthy (and now skinny) 12, almost 13 yr old.
I'm confident your baby would be just fine if you delivered now.

My son was boring at 36 weeks. He didn't breath right away and that freak me out so bad!!! But he was okay he just needed a few seconds before he cryed! Then keep him for a day or so then gave him to me. The Dr. Said they needed he lugs to  transition to breather air!  He is now 1 in half and he is doing perfect! He is above his higth n whight for his age!

So far labor has been successfully stopped. I am 35 weeks tomorrow so I am very relieved. I'm not as worried now knowing if she has to be in the nicu it shouldn't be long. The scare of her coming at 33 weeks was very scary. I'm ready for these weeks to pass though I want her to stay put as long as possible but I am definitely hurting more every day. thank yall for all the wonderful responses I was stressing a bit.

I had my boy at 36weeks and he spent 5 days in special care. He was 6pound exactly it was hard but also abit reliving knowing there was nurses watching him all the time. I stayed in the hospital the whole 5 days and was brestfeeding every 4 hours i just hated leaving him there to try and get some rest. But he is a very smart healthy 20 month old now.

So far we are doing well, and contractions have been stopped. I'm in pain since she is so low but I'll be 35 weeks Friday. our goal is to keep her in as long as we can. We go today again to make sure everything is good.

They had to take my daughter early at 35 weeks bc she just wasnt growing. She weight 4 pounds 11 ounces and went to the NICU until she weighted 5 pounds. I know its scary since you havent dealt w the NICU before but it will be ok. If she has to then that first time seeing her will be the scariest but they look way worse than they are just bc they are so tiny and the wires and tubes seem so gigantic compared to them, but they have accomidations so they you can stay there w your baby and be there for every feeding. They have parent NICU rooms next to the NICU w a bed and shower so that you can rest betweeb feedings but im sure if anything happens and she has to go to the NICU then she wont be there long, if shes like my daughter she will be a little fighter and will get stronger and stronger every single day. Good luck honey and i will pray for you your baby and your family.

My little brother was born a month before his due date, but he only clocked in at a little over 3 pounds. His placenta stopped growing and they found he was pretty much starving to death, so they took him by emergency csection. He was only in the NICU for about two weeks and was able to come home. My oldest son also was almost considered a preemie as well. I had him at 37 weeks and he didn't even make it to 6 pounds. 5 lbs 15 oz. I had to do a lot of skin to skin contact to help him maintain his body temperature. If he wouldn't have kept his temperature up, they would've sent him. Most NICUs are great and understand how hard it is for the parents not being able to bring their babies home right away. They're usually cooperative and most allow you to call in anytime after visiting hours and check on your baby.

That's relieving to hear, I'll be 34 weeks this Friday I have had 2 steroid shots they said would help her lungs. I'm just worried about her being small and having health issues. So far I'm not having contractions I stopped dilating and I'm home which is more comfortable.
