FAM is an acronym for Fertility Awareness Method.  It uses BBT, cervix position, and cervical mucus to determine when ovulation is approaching and when it has occurred.

The FAM line is drawn to show the two phases of your cycle.  The estrogen phase leading up to ovulation will be the first set of temperatures, they sit below the FAM line.  The progesterone or luteal phase is the second set of temperatures after ovulation occurs, they sit above the line.  The line varies from cycle to cycle, so it will never really be the same.

The chart on MedHelp's ovulation tracker automatically draws the line based on your BBTs taken each morning, and other signs you input, such as the cervix position and CM.  Usually the line will not be drawn until the temperatures have consistently risen for at least three days.

If you really want to be in the know on FAM, charting techniques, and interpretations, pick up a copy of "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Tone Weschler, MPH.  It is incredible the amount of knowledge she shares.
