Idk if crutches would be much help... I feel like it would be harder and more tiring to walk with them then to just walk in general. I figure that it won't hurt to ask, because I would never abuse the system and use it unless I absolutely had to.
Couldn't you ask for walking aid such as crutches? I'm from the UK and I've never heard of anything like this for pregnant people. I do get what your saying as I've got SPD so can't walk more than 2-4 car lengths without being in pain never mind what the weather is like. If you are still able to get out and about though they might not give you a handicap sticker as there may be people who are more priority
Thank you ladies for the responses! I appreciate the ladies that stood up for me and made me not sound like I was just lazy. I am going to talk to my OB about it on Wednesday and see what she says. I mainly posted this just to get some feedback if other mothers were able to do this, and I appreciate the responses. The worst she can say is no. I am scared of being put on bed rest and with my husband working so much, it does worry me because I have to be self sufficient and take care of everything else while he is at work.
I really wish our military base would have parking for expected mothers, esp since I see so many of them. I rarely even go into town anymore because I cannot stand the 40 minute drive. Hopefully, my OB takes pity on me. lol.
I know down here at bliss they have expecting mother parking by permit only and that is given at 36 weeks. I know how you feel about the dry heat. Could always try to have hubby drop you off at the front of the store when your a shopping with him
Unless there is a medical problem besides pregnancy, no you will not be given a handicap sticker. Your primary care physician would be who you would be referred to should you ask your OB, but again unless theres an actual medical disability and not just a baby (babies do not make us disabled, again, except in situations like sciatica which again would require a visit to your PCP), they will not assign it since it is not a nnecessity.
As nice as it would be to have the option on a handicap tag, its not just the OBs decision, they have to fill out all the paper work but then the MVC has the final say in whether or not you get approved. If they don't believe you fall into the category of "disabled" then they won't approve you. Plus by the time you see your Dr, have them fill out the paperwork, and have the MVC process it all, it could be a couple weeks.
Definitely I was horrified to read a post earlier about how much it cost to birth!
And now to read they don't accommodate for mommy parking either. .. jasus I'd probably end up giving birth on my own on my sofa and never being able to go shopping if I was there lol
And to those people giving this poor girl hell need to knock it off her question was not asked to receive snotty comments.
Answer questions how you would like yours answered. And treat these fellow mommys how you would like them to treat you on this mommy forum
You guys definitely need to have a big protest and make obama change the rules in America!
Free maternity care for all women and mommy parking in every car park! ! :)

Sweetie most places have wheel chairs that are motorized right next to the carts. Can your hubby get you one and bring it to you?
I know exactly how you feel, especially with hip pain, back pain, rib pain, and the feeling you have to pee when you don't BC of all the pressure!!
My hubby lets me wait in the air conditioned truck while he goes to get a wheel chair.
People normally won't say anything, especially to a fiesty pregnant lady.
We may not be handicapped but that doesn't mean we have to be beached whales walking ten minutes to a store having hot flashes and hoping we don't cough or sneeze and pee ourselves!! Being pregnant is hard and i don't see ANYTHING wrong with having a little help. Especially if no one else is using them!!!
But next time you go check to see if there is a wheel chair & either be dropped off in the front or have some one bring it to you.
Also store greeters or the courtesy clerks (the people the gather carts) have no problem bringing you one if you ask.
Plenty of people are willing to help a pregnant lady be more comfortable, Hense the name courtesy clerk.
Don't be ashamed to ask girl! The worst they can do is say no lol
I can't believe they don't have mother and child parking thats terrible :(
In that sort of heat and distance I can understand why you require accessible parking - I did not in any way mean you didn't need it or to be rude.
I was crying in my grandmothers garden there the other week because it was 17 degrees celeius and the sweat was pouring down my back and face and I couldn't remove any more layers of clothes-
I couldn't imagine walkin in heat and being ready to pop :/
There's a $150 ticket that people ignore for the illegal handicapped parking, but how is the "mother" parking enforced?
Texas just tows your car if your parked in the handicapped parking spots without a sign.
I was excited to find the expectant mother parking at babiesrus. I live in Alabama and I totally understand with all the heat! We just don't have any other places that offer "mother" parking...probably because we have enough people illegally using handicapped parking. Down here sadly when "granny" passes away, her family members will use her hang tag even though they don't need it. :/
How do other states enforce the special parking?
Wish we had those parking spaces its so hard getting in and out the car with 3 kids especially when their acting up or are sleeping and mommys expecting
What is with some states and not having all these signs?
Where I'm from we have a with child sign. So whether you have kids or your pregnant you can park there as long as you have you mom to be lot baby on board sign in the back
Im glad there are also other mom's on here who understand what we are going through.
@princesslo007 your welcome :)
Thank you Allocate! I am so glad that someone else understands!!! :)
Some of us are actually about to pop just like she said so yes when it is hot as hell we dont wanna walk ten minutes just to get to or from our cars. Im in south Texas and its ridiculous hot plus humid and so I completely understand what princesslo007 is going through. And the only store that even has the maternity parking spots here is babies r us. We have big cars too and my step dad is always dead set on parking in the way back. I excersize myself and am still hot and tired by the time I get into the store or back to the car. I also am small in stature and have only gained baby weight but Bella is heavy beyond anything for me. Im not used to carrying this much extra weight and I used to carry fifty pound bags of flags and trays of food. Its different for everyone yes but some people are new at this and aren't used to carrying the extra weight around for more than a few months. So just watch what you say about or to people without knowing their back story. Oh and I am also in preterm labor still myself
Yeah Idk. My doctor was worried because at 34 weeks they said I was in early stages of labor. I was having contractions a consistent 8 minutes apart and had signs that I could go at any time. Then we had a scare Monday and actually went to the hospital for contractions that were 4 minutes apart. They really just want me to rest and not to do a lot, but I still have a life to live, and life can't stop because I'm too far along. My family is 1,400 miles away and all I really have is my husband (minus a few close friends who work during the day.) It just *****.
My sister didn't have anyone either. Her husband was living in a different state on business. It was ridiculous that they told her that though. But all Dr are different you might have a better one than she did!
