GESTATIONAL DIABETES

Okay so I started insulin on Tuesday afternoon. I must say that since I have I feel overall a little better then usual. More healthier and more energy. I have been told that I can have three meals and three snacks in between. I have an evening snack an hour or so before bed. At night time though, when I am trying to sleep....I feel very hungry. I am not sure what to do here. Is it okay to have a snack in the middle of the night. Sometimes I am so hungry I feel so empty and it is not pleasant. I feel like I am staring myself.Should I have a snack if I am hungry? I am worried it will make blood sugars higher despite taking insulin but I am so uncomfortable and hungry that I need something. I would eat like vegetables but they are hard on my stomach. Any suggestions here on what to do and what to eat?
The bedtime insulin last up to 18 hours, which is great but it does not mean I am any less hungry. Any advice or suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

I too was diabetic with my last pregnancy.  I was on 3 meals and 3 snack like yourself.  I had to see a diabetic specialist and nutritionist, they designed each meal so it was balanced with the right amounts of carbs, proteins etc.  However my problem wasn't hunger, I was never hungry and had to force my self to eat every scheduled meal/snack.  In the morning I had to test my urine for keytones, if there were keytones in my urine that meant that my body didn't have enough food and it was burning fat.  And there were many morning that I tested positive for keytones and the nutritionists wanted me to have a snack like crackers and cheese in the middle of the night.  So to answer your question if you feel like ur starving I think you should have a snack cause keytones are no good for the baby.  Hope this helps, sorry so long!!  Good luck!!

thanks for your advice I will try tea tonight, though I don't want to mask the feeling of hunger as baby and I need the food if I am hungry and as long as I eat  a healthy snack I should be fine.....Relaxing at bedtime..Duly noted..:) Hard at times but thanks for the reminder....:)
