I have this same problem--------- when I was pregnant and otherwise. Maybe it stems from that evening snack that I always had as a kid. I don't know but just want something to eat prior to bed time.
I've always eaten a little something before bed but try to keep it healthy. The problem I ran into when pregnant as that the farther along I got, I developed inscreasingly uncomfortable heartburn. At that time, I really couldn't eat before bed without waking in the night with a burning, gurgling chest. I'd have a small bowl of grapes before bed then or an apple.
But you will still find me having a small yogart, piece of fruit, bowl of cereal or something before I hit the bed. If I don't---------- I wake up in the middle of the night hungry and that is when I do what JoyRenee talks about. I seem to lose my mind in the wee hours of the morning and find the box of pop tarts and jar of peanut butter. So I'm better off with my controlled, healthy snack before I turn in.
good luck
As the above commenter said it is generally not healthy for anyone. Try eating a snack 1-2 hours before bed and keep it LIGHT. Popcorn is a good, healthy snack (no butter, light or no salt).
Your body will store any food you eat before bed as fat. I gained 50 lbs with my first baby because I would eat in the MIDDLE of the night when I'd get up to go pee. And it was always something really bad that was easy to grab and eat (piece of bread, brownie, cookie, etc.). Needless to say I've had three kids in 5 years and I have 40 lbs I STILL have no lost.
I'ts not going to effect your baby per se but it's not really healthy to do it all the time either (pregnant or not). When you go to sleep your metabolism slows down which means it's not processing/digesting your feed as well and as properly as it should. It could lead to unnecessary weight gain, indigestion, heartburn, etc.
