Well for one asking such a question is stupid. The decision is not pain or painless its epi no epi. Youre not choosing pain youre choosing a mobile free birth. Whereas with an epi you are stuck to a bed. Also epi can slow labor and even stop it resulting in a csection. Also an epi can cause you to be unable to feel the urge to push which can make the pushing process much longer. An epi can cause respiratory distress in the baby as well. And most women who get epidurals also end up getting pitocin which has its own list of complications it can cause. Its not a matter of choosing pain for those of us who decide against an epi its a matter being able to have a safe unmedicated mobile free nonrestrictive birth with out ending up needing a list of medical intervention just from choosing something seeming as simple as an epi

After my first delivery which was induced and I had an epidural, I went to hypnobirthing classes for my next pregnancy. I did that delivery and the next completely w/o any intervention because I wanted to do it for myself. We're built to do this naturally and I wanted to see for myself if I could!

However, for my fourth delivery I did ask for pain meds thru the iv. I already knew I could do it so why not ;)
