Will a Uterine Fibroid affect me being able to give birth naturally?

I went to the doctor on the 8th and had my first Sono. Little bean is healthy with a heart rate of 175bpm. When my doctor's nurse came in she was all smiles, congratulated us and said that Everything was healthy and looked great.

Her words were, " You do have a uterine fibroid. These are common in African American women. They are benign growths and that grow with different hormone level changes. Yours is the size of a golf ball right now. From the looks of things it should not have ant negative affect on your pregnancy. It will continue to grow during the duration of your pregnancy, but again, there should not be a problem, but we will continue to monitor it."

If she says that I am ok, AM I?. Has any one else had a uterine Fibroid during pregnancy and if so were you able to deliver naturally? Does a fibroid mean that I should look into just having a regular hospital birth and for go trying to find a birth center and do it the natural way outside of a hospital?

My next appointment is Nov 5th and I will be asking them all these questions. I just wanted to see if anyone on here has some insight.

Ahh, is that not a magical moment when you see and hear bean for the first time!!  I'm so glad baby is nice and healthy.  So, your doctor has an ethical duty to tell you everything you need to know and to advise you of risks during your pregnancy.  Your doctor is saying clearly that they are not concerned and it shouldn't affect things!  There is no reason your doctor wouldn't tell you otherwise if this wasn't true!  Fibroids ARE common and women deliver without issue with them.  So, I would not be worried. They are monitoring it and you'd know if it was starting to get too big that it would impede things.  It very most likely won't.  So, try not to worry!!  Sounds like everything is great!!  Yay!  Such a blessing!
