How long does induction take?! :(

I've had a pessary called 'propess' in since 6pm it's now 4am
I have horrible period cramps and back pain :( so uncomfortable I can't sleep grrr :(
It's a 24 hour slow release hormone, but I've been told by doctor that a lot of woman go into labor before the 24 hours.
When will it happen for me????????
I'm stuck at this horrible uncomfortable point that won't shift :(
Someone jus get this baby out of me please!

I had propess in for the full 24 hours with some cramping but nothing more.   but i was already 2-3cm dilated when they gave me it. I know if you're not really dilated after the pessary they can him give you the gel which help thin you out, you can get three lots of that over 24 hours (ie 8 hours apart), but i didn't need that. My boy was back to back as well and i had back labour x

Anything can happen at ur point... it s.u.c.k.s... I was induced on a tuesday night at 8:30pm. I was on pitocin for a long time.  Pretty much all day wednesday and I only got to be a 4. They told me I wasn't progressing anymore and I had to get a c section. Well I agreed and signed all the paperwork. So they took me off the pitocin Ehile I did that the doctor went to deliver other babies. She came back an hr later and checked my cervix and laughed. I was at a 7! I had dilated on my own.  So they broke my water to keep dilating and gave me more pitocin. 2 hrs later my baby was born :) but it was 30hrs from start to finish for me...

They broke my water when they induced me and from the time they broke my water to when I had my daughter is was 8 hours. Everyone's body is different so it really depends there's no set time for when everything should move along unfortunately.

Everyone is diffrent so it is hard to say. I was given potocin with my last and I was only in labor for an hour. Some are fast some it takes longer.

Yeah they have recommended an epidural seen as he's back to back with me at the mo. so I've been told a lot of my pain will be in my back so an ill really benefit from an epidural.
And I think that's what I'll have haha! But yeah 4cm I have to be for that. No idea what I am now, they will only examine me if I start to have strong regular contractions. Atm they are painful but not painful enough. Hopefully by lunch time they'll be in full swing! Fingers crossed!
And btw I absolutely love this, being able to post questions etc, its helped me out so so much last few weeks. Only thing that's kept me going! Such lovely women on here! :) thanks ladies!

That's a great way to look at it! :) Hopefully you won't be uncomfortable for too long, I believe at 4 cm or so they allow you to get an epidural? It could be sooner or maybe a little bit further dilated? I cannot remember what I've heard. But that's if you were planning to get one. I'd talk to them about pain management if they haven't told you what and when they can do something for you, that way you can spend more time relaxing once things get a bit worse. You'll want to be as relaxed, calm, and not tired for when pushing time comes ! You'll do great!

That's very true. I know every woman is different. I think I had my mind set that I'd come in and when it was starting to work and near the time id jus have big strong contractions. Didn't realise they'd build up slowly and I'd be quite uncomfortable.
Either way, the thing that's keeping me going is no matter what now there's no turning back and I will have my baby, I won't be leaving to go home without him :)
Jus wish he'd hurry up lol!

There's really no way of knowing. I've actually spoken to a lot of women I've actually met here since I started posting back in April, and I've known several who were on Pitocin for 10-20 hours. Some without really any dilation happening, some who got to about 7 cm and stalled and their body wouldn't go past, and some who even though they got close enough if not capable of pushing, baby was too big or they were too small down their to have baby naturally. Either way a lot of them needed a c-section.

Not saying that you will, but saying that there is no guarantee it will even work in the way they plan for it to work. The goal with induction is to give birth vaginally (unless it was already known to be necessary for a c-section). Then again, there are also tons of women who go in, get hooked up to the Pitocin, and are on it maybe 3-4 hours if not even less, and give birth.

Just depends on how your body does with induction. Nobody is the same in this aspect. Good luck!
