I was in so much pain that I thought I was going to die. I mean, really. I couldn't sleep, could hardly walk. I mean, I couldn't function or take care of my other kids. Told my OB that the cream wasn't working. He immediately put my in touch w/ a general surgeon. I went the following day to see him and I actually was sent straight over to the hospital for the surgery. He said he could lance it and let me heal and it may or may not return. Or he could do the surgery. Well, I didn't want to chance it coming back so I had the surgery. I can't lie though. That surgery was painful, but it wouldn't have gone away without some type of procedure being done. I had no choice. Your midwife couldn't do anything for you as far as I know. I would just look at general surgeons in your area and make an appt. to be seen. Might not be a bad idea. Any constipation or straining could cause it to flare up again and become painful. If you do end up having surgery, you will need help with Lexi for at least 2 or 3 days. If you want any more info., you can PM me anytime and I will be more than happy to answer your questions if I can.
@Michele, They gave me that cream at the hospital and I used it as directed and my hemorrhoid never went away. It doesn't hurt anymore, but I'd rather not have one if I can help it. Hmm...maybe I should mention it to my midwife or something next time I see her.
I might have to try that juice. Sounds good. But stool softeners don't generally cause cramps. Most laxatives don't anymore either. I haven't had that problem w/ the ones I have taken.
Plum smart juice. It is quite tasty & works wonders without giving you nast cramps.
Yes, constipation is totally normal throughout pregnancy. The iron in prenatal vitamins causes even further constipation. It is perfectly safe to take stool softeners/laxatives throughout pregnancy. In fact, I even have a prescription prenatal vitamin w/ a gentle stool softener in it, to help counter-act the iron in the vitamin. It does help.
As far as natural things you can do, but don't always work....drink tons of liquids. Water is the best but also clear liquids. Make sure to get plenty of fiber in your diet through veggies and fruits, and even whole grain breads and cereals.
Hemorrhoids can certainly occur and can actually require surgery so keep an eye on those and try to avoid getting them if you can. I had to have surgery w/ my last pregnancy because of mine. It was the worse pain I have ever experienced. I was 37 weeks. The further along you are in pregnancy, the bigger the baby, therefore, the more pressure is put on your rectum. There is also a prescription cream your doctor can prescribe call Proctofoam or something along those lines. If you say that to your doctor, he/she will know what you are talking about. And ask for the cream and not the arisol. Cream is much easier to use. They actually normally send you home w/ some of that when you leave the hospital from having the baby. Also perfectly safe.
Good luck!
i am 10 weeks and 5 days , and have a same peroblem , just want my body back to normal but it will be long way to go , i think it is normal to be constipated
I was pretty constipated my whole pregnancy. It alternated towards the end though. But generally, yes. Lots of women have trouble with constipation, and it's just a side effect of all of the hormones. I personally did not get any hemorrhoids until I delivered from all of the straining I did. Unfortunately, I don't know what to tell you about that one since I still have one and dd is 7.5 months old. Lol.
