I took castor oil today, DON'T DO IT!

I know other women on here have wanted to know if it works and I only took it because I asked my hospital and they told me it would Not hurt baby but warned me of the discomfort it can cause and man were they right, I took 2 tablespoons at 9:50am this morning..within 45mins I was on the toilet and feeling so sick, it also made me vomit ALOT I almost passed out, I took another 2 tablespoons at 2:10pm despite already feeling like I was dying and big mistake, I can't eat because it comes right out and burns really bad like its just acid..so now its 6:52pm and I have nothing but a raw/painful butt, feel like im going to vomit so I can't eat, I have a bad headache and haven't had any contractions so haven't even gone to L&D..im 39weeks tomorrow and I won't be trying this again..baby feels fine hes moving but just wanted to share my bad experience with it

I'm sure your baby is fine. It doesn't pass the palcenta. If your baby passed a bm it would be because you're toward the end of your pregnancy

Castor oil does not pass through the placenta to the baby. It can not cause the baby to poop because it does not go to the baby. A baby's bowels develop as you get to the end and sometimes they fully develop before baby is born. If fully developed they will poop while in the womb if you wait it out or take castor oil. Some women don't do well with castor oil but some don't do well with any medication even medical induction and epidural. I have taken it twice for induction and it worked both times with no bad effects. It is a laxative so yes it makes you poop small doses 2 tablespoons split into two doses taken 4-6 hours apart normally does not give you diarrhea but may. Castor oil is a natural medication and does work differently with everyone and may have side effects, it does not make it bad or unsafe.

Ya I kept chugging water after.  Hopefully it happens soon I've been in prelabor since wed With non-stop contractions.

@Erica..man yours really went perfectly, now im worried my son's going to have a BM in there and I wont know it..but my hospital didn't even warn me about that /: Im nervous now

Nope I made my decision based on all my research that I did. But I didn't take a lot and I said if it didn't work last night then I'd wait another week after I got my membrane sweep but nope it worked. And my baby is super healthy. And it didn't cause him to poop that only happens of you let yourself get too dehydrated. My son didn't even make his first bm until 6 hrs after his birth.

Well I seem to be the only one with such a negative effect lol..i still am hoping ill go into labor but I just don't feel like I am, feel like im just going to sit here the next few days with Vaseline on my butt ): oh well, I wish everyone else good luck

@Ericatoday when you took it did the doctor know. Like can they see if its your pee or blood. I've been research ing on it before I take some.

I am 38 weeks exactly today.

I was 39 weeks when I took it. The next day I had My membranes stripped and my water broke a few hours later. I believe the castor oil is what started everything because at my appointment I had very high blood pressure before she stripped my membranes. I had my daughter the following morning. Never pooped once from it.

I took it with my last baby and he had a bowel movement in the womb.

@Ayley_dru ..yea I think I did over do it..I tried to stay hydrated but I threw up all my water, I should of started off slow but thats exciting it seems like your going into labor so good luck!

I only took 1 tablespoon with a milkshake yesterday I pooped a couple times nothing bad I had contractions all night and this morning I had my bloody show and been losing my plug all day today. Thinking about doing it again tonight. You just have to keep really hydrated and take small doses.

@FloridaAtHeart I did look it up but there were so many mixed answers I decided to just ask my doctors..like I said my baby feels fine its just me it screwed up lol but apparently it does work for some just not the unlucky ones like me /:

Oh my God, you should have done more research beyond your doctor's word. Taking that could have harmed your baby, despite what your idiotic doctor has told you. It has causes last minute birth defects and still borns, as well as early labor in women who were not full term.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with it. I took it last night and just had my baby this morning.
