So I know you can't get tattoos while your pregnant nor would I EVER attempt to get one knowing I'm pregnant but I was just sitting here thinking why? Why can't you get a tattoo while pregnant? Is your skin different and won't hold the ink or what?

Ok first of all the ink has nothing to do with it. The risk is the potential for infection that could end up harming the fetus. Its Ok to get a tattoo but its not recommended and you will be hard pressed to find an artist that would be comfortable doing it. Your doctor should always be consulted before hand and proper cleaning and extra care should be taken to avoid said infection. When doctors started telling pregnant women to not get tattoos, this was back when the tattoo industry didn't have good health regulations like it does now and they were more concerned with the spread of infectious diseases such as hepatitis when this began.

Ink poison enters blood stream affecting the fetus.

There's an increased risk of infection because your body is focusing on baby mostly. The infection can seriously hurt your baby so they won't ink on a pregnant woman for legal reasons. Also I'm just guessing here, BUT. Dying your hair is ok but they warn the dye may not take as usual and/or come out a wonky color due to hormones. Maybe tattoo ink reacts similarly? I can just see trying to get a purple tattoo and it coming out a light blue lol

Its like when you're stressed/crying/angry etc. Baby can sense it so when you're getting tatted & you're in pain, baby knows so it stresses the baby out & stress on baby is never good so it could cause problems.

No, not that baby would feel the pain, just that when you are super stressed out due to pain the baby could be effected due to the amount of stress you are going through is what I meant... (but as I put on another post me, my mom, and sis all got little matching tats on our ankles and my sis was 3/4 months prego and everything was fine and healed great just like ours did... but she is not bothered by the pain of tattoos... especially a small ankle one lol)

Really? I didn't know that if your in pain than your baby was in pain! That's horrible. How exactly does that work?

I always just assumed it had something to do with how people handle pain... if it hurts you a lot and you are stressing/freaking out it could hurt the baby....?

I agree with the ladies above. It could cause infections with the toxins of the ink that sink in your body & also when you're getting tatted it hurts some people & when you're in pain it stresses baby out & that's not good either.

The healing process might take longer, prone to a higher risk of infections, and/or ink entering the blood stream... I am inked all over my body and don't believe this one is the case but who knows.

I believe it has something to do with the toxins that the ink puts in your body. I had a friend who was supposed to have twins and she lost one not knowing she was preg. Before getting it. So she just has her one son.
