I have a small dog and she's mean. Doesn't like kids or people that she doesn't know. So we did the baby doll thing. She would bit it an chew on the baby doll so everyone told me to be careful with her. Well the day I brought my daughter home. I sat on a rocking chair an my dog sniffed her head an then sniffed mines. An then she sat right next to my feet an wouldn't let no one touch us not even my mom. She didn't leave my daughters sight not one min. Dogs are actually really good with babies

Aww that's an awesome idea I feel like kids adapt a lot different than animals! He's gonna be such an awesome older brother congrats on the girl :) thank you again!

Np:) Our dog was our baby before our son was born and we wanted to make the transition as easy as possible on him so we wldnt have to give him away and this worked out so well for us! We are actually using the same doll to break my son in before his sissy gets her lol so we are using the recordings again, teach him how to hold her and even play nursing her lol he is so attached to my breast (even tho he weaned himself 4 months ago) that I was so worried how he wld react to having to share them...at 1st he wld cry and hit the doll, but now wen he hears a baby cry he runs and gets the doll and puts her on my chest so I can nurse her lol that doll was a great investment;) Hope all works out well!!

Jsms thank you for replying! I'm really gonna try that, all my dogs are huge two are pit bulls, ones a sharpie/pit bull, and the girl is a German Shepard/ pit bull they're all under the age of 2 and all are wild! Lol the doll seems like the best idea

We did the same thing wit the doll! We had a large hyper German Shepherd. We carried the doll around for months before baby came and found different recordings on YouTube of babies crying and wld play them while carrying the baby around. After awhile he really wasn't phased by it. We stayed in the hospital for 3 days so my mother-in-law brought home one of the outfits my son had on and put it on the doll and wld walk around wit it and let our dog smell it. Wen we got home our dog didn't even realize our son was real and alive until a week later wen he saw him stretching and moving unlike the doll lol

Yeah I heard he smell is the best way, it's how dogs react to everything all of our dogs are pretty calm except one he's a little wild at times and he's the youngest of them all so it's expected

Before I came home from the hospital I brought home my son's hat and left it on the table and let my dog sniff it. My bf brought it home a day before my son came home That way he got used to the baby and so he wasn't all that new when he arrived. He at least knew his smell.

Thank you! My dogs are all big dogs and huge babies follow me and my bf everywhere around the house! I was really considering the baby doll thing and now that you've mentioned it I think it'd be a great idea! Thank you again!

I found out that my dog got jealous when I hold babies (the same as my toddler) so I bought a baby doll and started carrying that around with me and teaching her not to jump on me and other things while holding it. Did the same thing before when I had my son and by the time I bought him home the dog I had at the time only sniffed him a bit and was fine. Just be sure never to leave baby down around the dogs unattended obviously because they don't pay good attention to their feet and don't realize how to not hurt baby. But typically as long as they don't feel you are ignoring them they don't care about baby
