Is there any chance for my baby?

I have been on methotrexate for 8 months as I have morphea. I gave it up at the beginning of August because I couldn't stand the tiredness and hair loss it was causing me. I had my period on the 23rd of August and had unprotected sex with my husband on the 4th of September. I am now pregnant and the doctors form the Dermatology department are telling me I should terminate the pregnancy because of the abnormalities methotrexate can cause to the baby, because there should be a 6 month gap between ending the treatment and start of pregnancy.
We want the baby so much but we don't want to bring to the world a baby that would most likely suffer.
Also we are not sure that the baby would get anything. The baby might be healthy and I can't live with the thought that I decided to end my healthy baby's life.
What can I do? What tests can I ask for to be sure that the baby is healthy or not? That there will not be any problems.
Thank you.

Oh my gosh, what a situation!  I so feel for you sweetie.  Have you yet seen your ob/gyn to discuss this?  I would definitely seek their opinion rather than just the dermatologist. Now, I'm going to see what I can find to copy to you but I have read that the waiting period is at least ONE menstrual cycle since you stopped methotrexate before getting pregnant.  Was there ONE period before you got pregnant?

Almost one ovilation cycle. I haven't been to Obs/Gyn  yet as I need to be contacted by them first. So hoping it will be soon. I feel se bad, I am sure there must be some tests they can do to see if the baby is ok or not.
Almost one . . .   did you have a period in between?  that would make one full cycle.  I know, it's scary.  I do think most abnormalities that are possible would show on ultrasound.   Over time I've read that at least two women were in your same situation here and had healthy babies.  Nothing is in stone that will happen.  And I will say now that several sites that I just visited said that it is just one cycle in between stopping the methotrexate and conceiving that is most important. I know you are waiting for them to contact you but perhaps letting them know the situation would speed that process up.  In the states, ladies see their ob/gyn at 8 to 9 weeks for the first time. So, you should be doing prenatal care now. Like vitamins. Do you take prenatal vitamins?
I do take folic acid 5mg daily. Here in the UK, pregnant women are usually seen by a midwife at 12 weeks. I will be going sooner obviously, they said by next week I should hear back from them with an appointment. And to answer your question about the period, I had my period on the 23td of august.
Hopefully everything will be ok. Thank you
Yes, that is really good news that you had a period in between.  Hopefully that is enough time.  Talk to the midwife and you may need to be seen by a doctor and put in a higher risk category to be followed more closely but I so hope and pray it all turns out alright!  hugs
