I'm a second time mom and didn't know the exact answer to this either. Not a stupid question at all, we've got more stupid questions on here like "am I pregnant?". Not everyone knows everything about pregnancy and babies.

First time mom, forth time mom. Everyone has questions or concerns. I'm a first time mom my son is six weeks and I still have questions that might seem like "common sense"

But rock rose explained it dead on!

I'm not going to lie... some questions on here aren't the greatest questions. But this is definitely not one of them.

This is actually a more complicated question than I had thought at first.

At conception,  the egg gets fertilized.  And then,  it attaches to the uterine wall and a yolk sac is formed around the baby (i guess derived from the uterine wall lining nutrients).  That feeds the baby for the first 4 weeks,  after which the placenta that is attached to the uterine wall takes over and the baby is fed at that point from the placenta instead of the sac created at implantation.

NewMommy,  where on this site did you read it was at 20 weeks?

The link I found won't post,  but I googled "when does baby receive nutrition from placenta or yolk sac".

The baby gets nourishment from what you eat from the moment it's inplanted in your uterine wall,  about 4 days after the egg is fertilized.
