Late prenatal visit.

Hello,
I am 16weeks pregnant and I recently got denied a prenatal visit by an ob-gyn clinic because I quote: " The doctor does not see women that are 16 weeks or more because of liability issue", I was shocked.
So my questions:
1- Is that common and legal to deny care to pregnant women because of late prenatal care?
2- Is there any policy about that?
3- Does the Doctor's liability not involve if anything happens because of the lack (deny) of care?
Will appreciate your guidance.
PS: Living in Florida

Wow!  That's terrible.  I'm so sorry.  I do think that doctors 'can' refuse care in later stages of pregnancy but don't have to and I'd keep trying doctors as you obviously need care.  Issues they could possibly have are 1. (often given regardless if it is the full truth or not), without prenatal care until later, you are at higher risk of complications and they don't have a full history of your medical care and 2. there are some people that do doctor jump during pregnancy to avoid either a bad situation with the last or financial charges.  The doctor is allowed under the law to not accept you as a patient if they so choose, unfortunately. And they are avoiding responsibility of your care by doing so.  I'm sorry to tell you this.  OB hopping is a fear they have.  Have you seen 'anyone' during your pregnancy??  Let's start there.

Hi there.  Did you figure this situation out?  I sure hope we can find a doctor for you to see.  Let me know how you are doing.
