Loss of fluid at 20 wks.

Is it possible for this amnioin fusion to help??? My sister-n-law's water broke yesterday and all of the fluid is gone she is 20 wks. and not in labor, I have been reading about this amnioion fusion, but know nothing about it... Dose anyone know if her little girl has a chance they have given her a 5% chance to survive and they have been told that the baby weighs about 11oz. and is head down.. Has anyone gone through anything like this and is there any chance that her baby will live?????

well her body should produce more amniotic fluid and aslong as they put a purse sticht in to hold her womb clossed there is a chance if she stays on complete bed rest no moving of any kind. she only needs to hold out for 4-6 wks ! aslong as the baby gains wiegt they will deliver a baby at 1lbs 31/2onz any smaller and they won't even try! hope and staying stressfree which i know is hard but stress is the worst thing ! when my son was born 6yrs ago there was a baby born at 26wks gustation and she lived ! they made her hold out till the baby gained an onz and 1/2 before they would deliver but just her hearing that it is possible could give her the strength she needs to hold on! i hope it works out for her, please keep us updated we will be praying for her and her baby

oh and also i should have mentioned if they can keep the baby in there until 24 weeks the chances are much better.. it might still have problems but not as much. 24 weeks gestation is when doctors consider babies to be capable of living outside of the womb with medical assistance.

i had an amnio fusion when i was in labor because the contractions were causing stress to my baby when my water was broken. they thought the cord was getting compressed somehow.
it DID help me. her heartrate recovered beautifully....but granted i was 38 weeks pregnant and in labor. i'm not sure how long you can receive an amnio fusion. its not real amniotic fluid so i would think that using it for a prolonged period of time would not be good. BUT i am not a doctor. is she in the hospital? she needs to mention this as an option to her ob and just ask if it's possible.
water can sometimes reseal itself IF its a very small tear...if it broke and all gushed out then it won't reseal. is she under antibiotics? are they talking about inducing? normally when your water breaks you have to deliver in 24 hours to prevent infection.
also babies born at 20 weeks CAN survive (the earliest to survive was born at 19) but not without longterm problems and the chances are very slim.
i am so sorry she is going through this; i will keep her baby in my prayers!! i would mention this to her doctor and see what he/she says about the amnio fusion.
