My first scan was at 5 1/2 wks and there was only a sac, then at 6 1/2 wks we could see the flicker of a heart but couldn't even pick it up yet. At 7 1/2 wks we got the heartbeat. I would think the fact that they picked it up at all that early is a good thing. Try not to stress, things may be just perfect :)
they're not gonna get an accurate heart beat until your like 8-10 weeks. your babies heart has just started beating. i wouldn't worry, just wait until your next visit! the best thing you can do is stay positive! doctors usually don't think about scaring they're paitents because it's better for them to tell you the truth & be scared rather than not know, something happen & then you be devistated.. it's kind of like a heads up..
but you have a 50/50 chance or so they say, that's a big chance that they're wrong & everything is truely fine!
( i didn't see my son's heart beat until i was 11 weeks &1day)
My question is this..why do doctors have to scare you until there is actually something to be scared about. Me myself I am a worry wart the way it is so telling me something like this before it has actually happened and giving me all the "what ifs" or "could happen" just drive me insane and cause me unnecessary stress which is not helpful. Plus I read in my pregnancy book that the doctors office gave me themselves that at 6 wks the baby's heartbeat is beating approximately 80-85 beats per minute so why do they expect the heartbeat to be beating so fast so soon when it has just begun forming and beating????? Things that make you go 'HMMMM"!!
Oh and thanks for letting me vent on here and for listening. I am trying to stay calm until this Wednesday, but it seems like an eternity!!!
Hi there,
Also remember the babys heart has just begun to beat, it always starts off slow.
Try to relax and take things easy.
I agree with you. I think that doctors can loose their sensitivity sometimes. It is very scary to hear "Low Heart Rate" or "Sac with no heartbeat yet" or all of the other early pregnancy terminology. I had to get blunt and say, "If you don't explain what you are talking about, then you are going to scare the crap out of me." That seemed to jar the doctor into being more aware.
Best wishes to you! The first trimester can feel very slow but then times starts flying by!
Thank you so much for the responses...every little bit of encouragement seems to help. I don't think that doctors realize sometimes by what they say to you before they walk out of the office and how scared they get you that they are leaving you about ready to have an anxiety attack. This is all soo new to me that every piece of might happen or could happen of course stresses me out. I will say my prayers and keep my fingers crossed.
i never even seen a baby on my 6 week scan, it was an empty sac. dont worry too much about it and look after yourself
Doctors CAN BE OFF with your dates. Wait a couple wks before jumping to conclusions!
