Making a baby registry

I've been doing it all day I just looked at the list of everything I want and need and went through it found the stuff I want and put it on there. But in all reality I wish I could just ask for gift cards or cash so I can buy stuff on my own. Shopping for baby makes me happier than anything right now so it would be nice to be able to do a lot of it at once with my baby daddy and my son. Having other people buy me gifts just isn't as fun even if it is really appreciated.

Has anyone here ever just asked for giftcards/cash?

How are you guys asking without it sounding rude because everyone tell me its rude to ask for gift cards because its like asking for money. But I don't think its rude I love buying people gift cards that way they get what they want or need.

Everyone that came to my shower brought gift cards and cash only. I had the nursey all set up when I was 16 weeks and didn't need anything but formula and diapers.  I didn't want people to waste their money on things I didn't want or need.

I found this cute poem that I put at the top of my registry that says "If you're having doubt please give us a shout, and if shopping is hard please consider a gift card"

I figure most people since I see them all the time will ask me what I want and I can explain to them that I'd like a gift card to help with things I need but if not then I'll suggest something on my registry and let them know to include the gift receipt in case someone doubles up on it. And that way I can return it if I really don't need it.

I'm opted for buying the expensive stuff since ppl actually do get you pampers shampoos and clothes at baby showers... plus my mom is putting a suggestion on each invitation so i won't get a lot of the same stuff

I completely understand. I just wouldn't know how to ask for only gift cards. People have lots of fun picking out the items so idk but hopefully you can find a way!

The great thing about baby stores is most of them accept accept exchanges and most people will provide a gift receipt with the gift (although you may not even need one) so you can gather all the things you got as gifts that you dont want and exchange them for something you. I got doubles of a lot of things and i did this and it was nice to pick out exactly what i wanted

It's just I already bought a bunch of stuff myself. And I really just want to get the things I really need without getting a bunch of stuff I don't. I know it's good no matter what you get. I just know every baby shower I've been too you get mostly just clothes, diapers and shampoo when I don't need those things. I need bigger items and so it would just be better if I had gift cards because I could pull them together and spend it on the expensive stuff I need.
