I don't want a home birth. I think a birthing center would be ideal but can't find one. I could give birth any day now so I don't even know if it's worth it to try. 38+3 weeks
I have no choice but to use this hospital... the other is privately owned and does not accept Medicaid. I'm in a tight spot here guys! The midwife I called told me midwives are not accepting Medicaid... Could that be true for my area ? I live in Texas
I was on Medicaid when I had my son and I had a midwife - you just need to call around and find someone who can work with you.
You can refuse an IV - I did. I didn't want an open line. I didn't want an easy opportunity to ask for something in the middle of hard labor when I didn't really want it. If an emergency occurs and you need an IV started right away they can put one in then - L&D nurses are well trained on purpose.
You can refuse medications. My water had been broken for 21 hours when I gave birth and they wanted to give IV antibiotics but since I was not symptomatic of infection I said I didn't want them - and they agreed on the condition that I would accept antibiotics if I showed signs of infection later on. I didn't get put in a position where I had to refuse pain meds as my birth plan was clearly communicated and they were never offered.
Some hospitals have different policies. But if I was told I could not birth on my terms in my way, I would go somewhere else. That's why it's important to research facilities before registering to deliver somewhere.
some midwives take medicaid but my hospital makes you stay in bed with the iv.
Well, they do the same thing so yeah don't matter
Yes pitocin is the synthetic version of oxytocin, but they are the same thing... It's just the brand.
Ib guess I'll see if I can pre register and I can ask them then.
Pitocin is like the synthetic version of oxytocin which our body naturally produces I thought.
Oxytocin and pitocin are the same thing. The hospital cannot force drugs on you that you do not want. All those meds can be refused... However you usually sign a waiver that says will you allow them to use drugs/ blood products if they are unable to obtain consent from you in a life or death situation
That scares the crao out of me :/ I feel like I should have the right to refuse drugs like pitocin or pain kilkers and the epidural :/ can they legally force pitocin and or oxytocin ?
By law the hospital has to tell you their birthing policies a lot don't so you need to go and ask. I want a natural birth in a hospital so I'll be doing this soon. I don't want drugs or anything. I feel you have the right to refuse but you need to ask
A hospital will usually always start an IV, if you don't want anything running (like saline),or anything you may be able to refuse that. They start IVs because if god forbid you hemorrhage, as you lose blood it gets harder and harder to start an IV should you need a transfusion. If you have one already started that can literally be the difference between life and death.also if your BP drops suddenly and they need to push fluids to get it back up.
I don't mind the iv. I just don't want them injecting stuff without my knowledge
I can't get a midwife because I'm on Medicaid.
Hospitals have rules but you can refuse pain meds.
If you want any of that stuff it's up to u just ask the hospital what their rules are. If you dnt want an iv you dnt have to get it. Midwives are just as prepared as the hospitals and if there is a problem they will have everything you need.
An IV is VERY important to have!!! If there is ever a problem and you don't have IV access already established that could make all the difference in whether or not you survive
If you want 100% natural you should go with a midwife...not a doctor
Every hospital has different policies defintinlymake a birth plan!!!!!
No. Certain hospitals can have rules, which they are as a hospital, legally bound to do with all patients. Make sure you talk to them and your Dr about your birthing plan. Remember to be flexible, there are reasons when they must do certain things like IV or keep you in bed. Good luck!
