No fetus in the sac ?

I am about 13 weeks Pregnant. They cant find a fetus in the sac but they found the sac. there is also no sign of a miscarriage. I'm not sure what to do or does this kind of thing happen! I'm worried the doctor's wont give me a straight answer.

It does not sound positive. By 13 weeks, you would be able to see something.  It generally looks like a baby at that point too, mine was doing back flips at my 13 week ultrasound..

Im really sorry.. but I can relate.  My first pregnancy, I went for my 12 week scan and all i had was an empty sac measuring behind... I had no signs of miscarriage either, it was really devastating.  I couldnt believe it...

Did you ask what the sac was measuring. Mine was only 7 weeks and I knew I couldnt be that far off from my dates ....

They did some HCg tests on me and my HCg was lower at that point then it had been when I was 5 weeks so we knew there was no hope. I opted for a d&C because the sac was so far behind and I wasnt showing signs of passing it naturally... I couldnt bare going around waitng for it to happen..

My doctor was very vague about it to and when I cried, she told me not to and left the room.. they can be quite cold..

Passing it naturally will be a bit painful but its easier on the body generally..You can generally start trying to conceive after your first cycle that way...

MY d&c went great and I dont regret it but there are some extra risks with it so you might want to go over them first..  My doctor recommended I wait 3 cycles after to try to conceive.  We waited 2..  It took me 3 cycles after my d&c to conceive again. . On a positive note, my 2nd pregnancy turned out just fine and I have a 4 week old baby girl now.

There is no easy answer but generally a blighted ovum has no baring on future pregnancies...  If you have any doubts about it though, dont get a d&c, wait it out.. Dont feel pressured to get a d&c because they will push for it.. but if its a failed pregnancy, your body will reject and if not , then you can reevaluate in a week or two

Sorry to hear that  :(  Unless your dates are wrong, I agree with kmgrind. What the dr's will probably do is have you come back for another scan in a few weeks to check that they haven't missed any growth. What did they do after the ultrasound, did the dr's reschedule you for another scan? At 13 weeks there should at least be a tiny spot if your dates are wrong. I had something similar, but it wasn't a blighted ovum. Stay strong!!!

Sounds like you have what's called a blighted ovum. That's what happened to me when I had my first miscarriage. We went in for my 10 week appointment and there was no heart beat. The ultrasound showed only a yolk sac and no fetus. This happens when the fertilized egg attaches to the unterine walls but never develops. The yolk sac develops and your body does everything a pregnant body would do, but without the baby. You will either pass it naturally or your doctor will offer a d&c. I passed mine naturally. When you pass it will depend on when the hcg levels start dropping. Mine started right around the same time I found out so I didn't have to wait long.
