Opinion Poll: Should I go for Early Ultrasound?

I also posted this in the Maternal & Child forum:
K, I am looking for opinions:
Last Friday I got a positive HPT, which puts me today at 5w1d, as best as I can tell. In 2006 I had an ectopic pregnancy, which has been my only other pregnancy, and I was able to deal with it with Methotrexate and no tube damage, thankfully. My doctor told me at that time I could come in the "next time" for an early ultrasound. I have a cyst on my right ovary which is causing me some pain and worry, and I don't have much going on for symptoms, except sore/huge breasts, which are not as sore today as they had been. Here is my question:
Should I go in for an early ultrasound? My fear is that I will have to pay (don't have maternity coverage on my health ins.) for an inconclusive ultrasound and be told to come back in a few days (and pay another $300) for another. How many think that if I schedule an ultrasound for this week, that it will yield any results?? I am dying to go right away, but I want to be prudent...
Thanks, y'all!

Honestly, I would wait a little longer.  Trust me, I know how hard it is.  I had a m/c in December 2007, so in the beginning of June when I found out I was pregnant again I was a worry wart!  The nurse had told me it is standard practice to wait until 9-10 weeks along to do the first ultrasound. She then told me that I am going to m/c again, there would honestly be nothing they could do to prevent it.  I have a few suggestions for you though.  First, apply for pregnancy Medicaid (as long as you qualify income wise, you can get it for the pregnancy only if your primary insurance doesn't cover it).  Second, look for a local place that helps with pregnancy tests, etc.  I know we have a local place that will actually do pregnancy tests and an u/s for free!  No questions asked (they also give you information about pregnancy options).  Third, if you are in any pain at all, go to the ER.  I know with my insurance my (in-network) ER trips are completely covered and I just have a $100 co-pay.  When I had to go to the ER when I was m/c'ing, I actually didn't know that was why I was in pain but after doing u/s and pregnancy tests it was confirmed.  I'm not saying to lie at the ER, but especially having a cyst I know those can cause pain (which is what we originally thought my pain was from).  So take this information how you'd like, but if you can wait I would, because now you won't be able to see much and by 9 weeks you can see the heartbeat and what is beginning to look like a baby.  Best of luck to you and enjoy every day this pregnancy!

Daisy,
As I do understand your concearn you are wise to maybe want to wait a little bit, early ultrasounds are very scetchy and alot of time cause worry for no reason. I would try to hold out till at least 6 weeks. Did your OBGYN ALREADY chart your pregnancy??? If not they might be able to get you in over a cyst related problem, and your insurance will maybe cover, just a thought. Good luck hun I know you are in grief right now, I did hear though that it is uncommen for multiple ectopics, although I am aware there is an eccepyion to every rule, I would try to rest my mind a little. GOOD LUCK!
