Placenta Previa...

Well, that was my diagnosis yesterday after spending 4 hours in the E.R. I didn't sleep well on Friday night AT ALL.. I woke up at 7 a.m.(on Saturday) and I took 1 tylenol p.m. b/c I had the worst headache.. I woke up again at about 10:15, did some dishes, made coffee, sat down and drank a cup, then went to get some water and when I got up,  I felt like I got my period, went in the bathroom, and bright red blood.. I freaked., I jumped in the shower, called my ex, he met me at the E.R. We were both prepared for the worst (especially since the dr. couldn;t find a heartbeat via doppler on Monday) they drew blood, did a pelvic exam, then an u/s.. The baby had a good heartbeat(144) and was moving A LOT.. Totally active. They said the results indicated placenta previa... I was so relieved that the baby seemed ok, and was sooo emotional by this point I sortof missed the explanantion of what exactly it means? I was wondering if anyone could clue me in?? I am emotionally spent. Thanks for explanations...

Geez, this is my first pregnancy and so scary in soo many ways so far. I hope this corrects itself so I don't have a c-section. That scares me too!! I am a big baby, I guess.. =)

Thanks for all the input...

I had placent a previa witrh my first daughter. But by the time I had gotten my second u/s my placenta had moved up. It's not harmful but if it doesn't move up you'll need a c-section. Hope everything works out for you...

Thanks again. That makes me fell better. The doctor told me to rest all weekend. I am still feeling like **** (however MUCH better than Saturday and Sunday!), but have no sick time left at work (until January) so I had to come in. I may ask if I can take my lunch break at the end of the day if I don't start to feel better by lunch. That way I would leave at 3 instead of 4. Thanks again for all the advice. I have another dr. appt. on Thursday so I will keep you all posted. Thanks!

My friend had that during her pregnancy.  At first the Dr told her to take it easy, but since she was working it was hard to do that.  So he said each weekend to do bed rest.  Well it got a little worse so he had her do bedrest for a month.  By the time she was 20wks the placenta moved up and away from her cervix.  The rest of her pregnancy was completely healthy.  However she did have to have a c-section.  With her second pregnancy she had a low lying placenta but it did not cover the cervix, however she still had to have a c-section.
Try not to worry too much....many, many women have had this.  Just take it easy and continue to follow up with your dr.  Sometimes in life it seems like when it rains it pours, but everything will be looking up for you soon!  You just have to get past a few rough patches...then you will have your beautiful baby!!

Thanks everyone. The reassurance helps, but I was/am still a little scared out of my mind. This is my first pregnancy and I do not know much about anything having to do with pregnancy I am finding, I know that sounds ridiculous, but I think you learn as you go, and like I said before I was such an emotional wreck at the end of 4 hours, the doctor could have said I was an alien and it likely would not have phased me. I wil be 12 weeks tomorrow so knowing this has happened to some of you a little earlier and little later makes me so much better.. The u/s eased my mind a lot as well. The baby was moving all around. It was pretty amazing. They didn't do a scan..

Geeez, between all the problems with my ex (the babys Father) and now this, I feel like I am so exhausted and spent....

I thank all of you on this board for your support, it means a lot to me..

I was diagnosed with either previa or abruption but the hospital thought that it was more than likely abruption. I had bleeding at 6 wks and two bleeds at 13 1/2 wks for which i was hospitalized. I had an emergency scan becuse it was thought that i had misscarried, but the little one was fine. I had a scan at 20 wks and the plecenta was back in its place. I was told that after 20 wks the plecenta would not move again.

they diagnosed me with placenta previa at 13 weeks it bascially means the placenta is covering the cervix where the baby would exit would be when you go into labor this will cause you to have to have a c-section but it can also lead to bleeding in the 3rd trimester  if the placenta does not correct itself which mines did at 20 weeks at an early stage its too early to really diagnose because the embryo is too small at that point..you'll be fine

Thanks. I am hoping it goes away. The doctor said it is possible but I guess it is also not as common early in pregnancy? I am bumping to see if anyone else has ideas, and thank you Michele and Pmp.. I am just stressed and worried..

I've heard of it and have known women who had it.  I think it's like a low lying placenta.  When you have this condition, you will have to have a c-section.  There is a possibility that the situation could correct itself before you give birth.  Your doctor will monitor the situation closely, but if the situation does not correct itself, you will have to have a c-section.  It is pretty common, but can be dangerous if not handled properly, which is where the  c-section comes in.

From what I have read is the placenta is torn, some of the other ladies maybe more familiar with it but I think its common
