Please help!! Gestational sac seen on u/s but no fetus...

I am very concerned.  I had sex on the 5th of April, which would put me at right around five weeks pregnant.  That is the only intercourse I have had before finding out I was pregnant at the beginning of May, so I know this is the right date.  I have seen on the Internet that it should actually be seven weeks (if counting from the day of my LMP) but when I went to the doctor and had a blood test, they said I was right at five weeks as well.  I had my first ultrasound yesterday and all the doctor could see was a gestational sac.. maybe two, he said...  He wants me to come back in a week and have another u/s, but said we should already be seeing more than we actually are on the u/s....  all we saw were two TINY black sacs.  He also mentioned a D/C if I come back and we cant see the fetus.  Has this happened to anyone else?  Should I go by my measurements, because if I count from that day in April forward, I would not think we SHOULD see anything but a sac yet?  Please help if you have been through anything like this.. I am so worried... and I don't know if the doctor saw something unfavorable and just doesn't want me to know yet... thank you...

When I had my first ultrasound at 5 weeks there was a sac and couldn't see the baby but was told they didn't expect to see anything yet. Now I am 23 weeks pregnant and my little girl is doing great. We saw the baby at nine weeks. Hope this helps :)

There is still a chance that everything is ok. I found out at 2weeks3days that I was pregnant, by a home test. Had an appt with my ob at almost 6weeks to confirm, plus I was having some bleeding. All he saw was the sac, no heartbeat or anything. He had me go for bloodwork because of my bleeding. I then went back 2days later for more bloodwork so they could check my hcg levels. They like to see them double in 48hrs, mine didnt double but they went up quite a bit which is a good sign still. They had me make an appt a week later for the, ultrasound and thank goodness they were able to see my little tadpole! They say that sometimes when you are that early its just a matter of a couple of days before you can see the heartbeat. I am now 32weeks5days and all is well!

It is within your right to request bloodwork done. Before proceeding with anything. And who knows...hopefully you will go back next week and they will see a heartbeat...maybe 2 :) Good luck hun

They start counting by the first day of your last period, not when you conceived.  Usually by the time you conceive you are already considered 2 weeks pregnant. My early u/s only showed an empty sac and they told me the same thing, in fact they told.me I miscarried... But when I went back 2 weeks later for an u/s they found a heart beat and dated it 6.5 weeks.... I was a whole week off in my dating and made all the difference.  Anything can still happen, try not to be too stressed out.
