Pregnancy with the Mirena IUD

I got the Mirena IUD put in February of 2008. I have had complications every since I first got it, such as heavy bleeding and severe cramps. When I got the Mirena, my doctor told me that it was very unlikey for me to get pregnant with it. Recently, I have been experiencing cramps, soreness of the nipples, fatigue, weight gain, moody, head aches, increase in appetitie, strange cravings. I am afraid that I am pregnant. Is there anyone with some helpful advice?

Hi,

I had the mirena in for the first time 18 months, then had one in for a year until this january when it was removed to ttc baby no 4. for me it was great, really helped with my painful and heavy periods, no other side effects for me that I can speak of. I did have a couple of scares too where I thought I might be pregnant, but as I continued having periods while the coil was in, once it showed up my fears were quashed. I will be 100% having another one fitted after I have my 4th and final baby, even though my dh is going for the snip too.

Yes Mirena is terrible! I had it for 3 years, but never realized all the troubles I had were due to it.!

I had the Mirena IUD and ended up getting it taken out because of all the complications. Because it is hormone birth control it can have lots of different side effects and can often make people feel like they are pregnant when on it. I remember worrying a couple of times that I was pregnant when I had it and finally I couldn't take the drama and switched birth controls. Best decision I've ever made.
