Sono @ 6 weeks?

What can I expect from a sonogram @ 6wk?  My doctor requested me to have one done next week.  I will be 6w3d.  I was just surprised because I thought that was to early to really see anything.  Anyone have a sonogram this early?  How did it go?

That's true.  With IVF, they know the EXACT date of conception, so my 6 week ultrasound I was definitely as far along as they expected.

"Normal" OB's don't do ultrasounds until much later.  But when you do fertility and see an RE (Reproductive Endocrinologist) they do a standard ultrasound at 6 weeks.  At least our clinic does.  With every pregnancy.  So it's not too early.

Some doctors will also do them early if you have a history of repeated miscarriages or other health complications that worry them.

Is there a reason your doc is doing your ultrasound so soon?

Again - I think it will be a very NEAT experience for you.  It sure was for us!

Let us know how it all goes!

I wouldnt worry if you dont see any of those things.  It may be a little behind 6 weeks and you will see nothing but a yolk sac.  Still perfectly normal but this is why they usually dont do one until at least 8 weeks.  Best of luck :)

I have also had them done as early as 6 weeks and seen a heartbeat.  If your dates are wrong or you Oed late and aren't quite as far along as you think, you may not so don't get too scared if that happens.  A day or 2 can make all the difference in the world at that early stage.

Yes - my first ultrasound was at 6 weeks.  We did IVF and that's standard for first ultrasound when you do fertility.  At that time, we could see the tiny little baby, the yolk sack and the heart beat.  It was AMAZING!  The most incredible experience I've ever had.  We waited seven years to get pregnant, so it was extra special!  They even let us listen to the heart beat too.  You will love it!!  Enjoy every second!!
