I'm goin g through the exact same thing. It's so devastating and the technicians were so insensitive.basically wrote us off and told us to expect blood and try again.  8 weeks preg but yolk sac and fetus measuring 5. When I got pregnant I had just come off birth control and hadn't had a regular period so dates might be wrong? So scared first pregnancy and we are beside our selves. Blood tests have been taken we are waiting for results and going to hospital tomorrow for second ultrasound. Can't stand it any longer. My husband is a wreck and so am I.

Before this pregnancy I had lost a pregnancy about 1 1/2 yrs ago. I was about 8 weeks pregnant and they saw a yolk sak u/s but no baby. They then ordered a blood test and my hcg levels was very low for me to be 8 weeks. 72 hrs later they repeated the hcg test and my numbers only went up a few. To confirm that there was no baby and this is called a blighted ovumn they ordered another u/s. And, yes it was true there was no baby and only a yolk sak. Atter the 2 hcg test and 2 u/s my doctor told me that I can go get a dnc or he will be able to give me a pill to abort the tissue that is inside me. I choose the pill becuase a dnc is alot of scarring to your body. I took the pill at midnight and by 4am the yolk sak came out with a little bit of blood. I was hurt very hurt and I still am to this day. I have so many questions as to why this happened to me? Was this meant to happen? What if I didnt take the pill? Was there a chance that a baby could grow? I even became upset at my husband and blamed him for somethings but in my mind I was wrong. Here we are now a yr and a half later and I am blessed to say that I am 33weeks pregnant. Its not been a easy pregnancy. I have had alot of stress, alot OF BAD MEDICAL ADVISE, one hospital told me that I has a miscarriage at 10 weeks but look at me now I am 33 weeks so this goes to show we are all human and make mistakes, I had one doctor tell me that I need to have a cerclage by 18 weeks or I will miscarry this pregnancy and again look I am 33 weeks now, I had on doctor tell me that I had a hermorgae and that I will miscarry but again I am 33 weeks pregnant. So, what I am trying to say is NEVER give up! I have had so MUCH BAD ADVISE FROM HOSPITALS AND DOCTORS its not even funny. I wish I had the right answer for you and I wish you all the luck you may need. If you need to talk I am here.

You mean progesterone. Well as far as hcg goes, the number is suppose to at least double every 48 hours in a normal pregnancy. So if that number is decreasing, it's a sign that that the pregnancy is not ongoing. I'm so sorry you are going through this. I am 5 weeks pregnant today and have been having some bleeding since Friday. My levels have been going up but I am worried that I may be having an ectopic pregnancy as I have had some sharp pains and cramping. Know that you are in my prayers.

awww, sorry for what your going through, but in my opinion it doesn't sound good.
K-tay has explained it very well. If your HCG levels are dropping you will miscarry and there is nothing that can be done. Docs can not make your HCG levels rise any quicker. Your HCG levels need to rise for the stage of pregnancy you are in give or take abit,

I have been through a miscarriage. I should of been 6wk when I had my ultrasound but measured at 4wk. My HCG levels were around the 3000 mark and yet I miscarried the day after the ultrasound.
In time you will begin to feel cramps which is your uterus contracting and will have some bleeding. Could be heavy could be light.
You can chose to pass the embryo (which is what your 'baby' is at this stage) naturally, via medication or by having a slight op called a D&C which is done under general anastetic. I chose to have the D&C.

Apologises for not telling you what you would like to hear, but there is plenty of support here on MH if you need it or if you have anymore questions.

wish you all the best in the future

A prior abortion shouldn't have an effect on your ability on conceiving a healthy child or carrying a healthy child.  But I'm so sorry, if you HcG levels are dropping you are most likely having a miscarriage.  I know that's not what you want to hear but it's probably what is happening.
The doctor prediction can be inaccurate because they base the gestation from your last menstrual cycle. If you are only 5 weeks gestation it is VERY possible there is a baby in there but is still too small to be seen.  Every woman and every pregnancy is different.

However, not to scare you, but there is such a thing as a Molar pregnancy.  It is rare but a molar pregnancy happens when tissue that normally becomes a fetus instead becomes a growth, called a mole, in your uterus. Even though it is not an embryo, a mole triggers symptoms of pregnancy.  If you have a molar pregnancy, there is no genetic information from the egg but the sperm continues to grow and develops into a mass.  This can never become a fetus because it is lacking half of the genetic information needed to develop.

I'm so sorry for the information I've given you.  Hearing that you are most likely having a miscarriage because of the dropping HcG levels is horrible.  I know exactly how you are feeling, I had a miscarriage in November.  You're in my prayers and I hope this was helpful for you.
