Tattoos/piercings

At my first dr app my dr asked what all tattoos and piercings I have. Any idea why? Other girls I have talked to say they have never had their dr care about it.

You don't technically have to take out the belly button piercing, but if you keep it in, the skin stretches more and it leaves a nasty scar. I took mine out when I found out I was pregnant and after 9 months, it still hasn't closed and it doesn't look nearly as gross as my best friends who decided to leave hers in.. also, if your belly button pops, keeping the ring in may become very uncomfortable.. mine never popped, but I am still glad I took it out.(:

I had my ob ask with my first.. he was asking how old they were, where I had them done etc. The reason for it is because he wanted to make sure they were done I a sterile manner... about the piercings I'm not sure, my doc needed to know because I had c-sections and you have to remove all metal from your body due to the way they have to cauterize the incision during surgery.

I know that if it is a tattoo on your back and it's placement makes a difference for an epidural.     Some of the piercing things make sense.  I know tht the belly button ones sometimes have to come out because of the stretching of your stomach and they don't want it to rip or anything like that.

I just have my nose and my lip and gauges in my ears, so yeah none of these are relavent to my pregnancy. Going to find out why when I call for my test results.

I have a stretchy ring in my belly button and it stretches with my belly. I don't actually have a clitoral piercing; I have a vertical clitoral hood piercing (it's exactly like what it's called, a piercing in my clitoral hood). No it did not hurt. It was like a tiny pinch and then it was over.

Thats really weird I have four peircings currently and five tattoos and never been asked that! And no belly rings don't have to be removed, there are pregnancy belly rings you can buy! Thank god because that's my favorite peircing I have. Lol

Huh I knew a girl that had to remove her belly button ring because her stomach was ripping right there but I wasnt positive about the other piercing just heard that nipple piercings and a clitoral piercing could need removed for whatever reason. Omg you have a clitoral piercing did that hurt. I imagine that would be horribly painful.

piercing location really would have no effect on emergency surgery.  If you need emergency surgery they will only worry about any objects in their immediate way.  Ex: they wouldn't worry about a nipple piercing if you had an emergency appendectomy.  They mainly tell you to take all jewelry off/out before surgery so they don't have to worry about possible foreign contamination.  Ya never know if some bacteria hitched a ride on your tragus, or industrial piercing.  but in an emergency it's just easier to take care of the immediate issue and worry about any other things later. Just an fyi, worked in a oncology ward in a hospital for three years as an STNA, and worked as a body art shop receptionist/info desk for two years.

A belly button ring does not have to be removed if it will stretch with the belly. Nipple rings can be left in until breastfeeding beings (you only have to take them out while the baby is on your breast). Discharge will not infect a piercing (your own bodily fluids cannot infect you), especially if it's healed. I have all of those piercings and I haven't had a problem, and I've done my research.

If you have a belly button piercing iy would have to be removed because of your stomach growing nipple peircings could affect breastfeeding and a clitoral piercing could get infected pretty easily with discharge and stuff like that. It could matter lol

Usually its just a documentation for the doctor in case of an emergancy. Nothing to really be worried about. Its just a way to insure that in a case where your not conscious, having emergency surgery and you have no one around that can tell them where all your piercings at!

That is super odd.  I'm on baby #2 and never been asked that..... Maybe weighing your risk for hepatitis?  It's super rare to get it these days in reputable, qualified body art shop.... I dunno I'm so stumped! Lol  I'd ask him next time lol I wanna know too lol

Maybe he was just curious. I have tattoos all over my back. My doctor said it looked like someone painted on me, but that was it. He never said anything about my piercings. I have lots of those too.
