Very concerned about girlfriend missing period

First of all hello,

My girlfriend and I are both 20 years old, we are sexually active and for the past 2 months and a bit she has missed her period.

She always had an unstable menstrual cycle, meaning it didn't come regularly at all, she once missed it one month ( but now it's more thus my scare )

Is it possible she has this problem for other reasons except pregnancy ? If so, what would those reasons be ?

It sounds like your girlfriend may have polycystic ovary syndrome which is a hormone imbalance (extremely common) and causes irregular ovulation and periods.

It is almost impossible to use natural family planning with an irregular menstrual cycle, so for the two of you, oral contraceptive pills would be a great idea until you are ready for a family.
