when should I take prometrium 200mg

Hello Doctor.,
I'm 28. I had 2 miscarriages, both lasted only 4w3d. I did all tests to find what was wrong. All results were normal, except a cyst in right fallopian tubes from HSG test. But my Dr. did not test progesterone levels so far.  My period just started, my dr. asked me to take prometrium 200mg vaginally only after I have a positive pregnancy test. Is there any chance I could prevent miscarriage by taking prometrium starting day14, because i'm planning to become pregnant this time. Is it safe to take before becoming pregnant?
My dr. told me to wait until day35, confirm pregnancy and to take prometrium. But the last two miscarriages was within 5 weeks. I could not call it as chemical pregnancy, because we saw the sac in u/s.  Please give suggestions, from when to take prometrium( after confirming pregnancy or from day14 ).

I have had some mild cramping, quite constant, since before I found out I was pregnant and I am 6 weeks weeks pregnant now - on prometrium. Maybe prometrium can have this effect with pregnancy?

I had two miscarriages before this pregnancy. I was on prometrium during my 2nd one and my current one until 10 weeks. My doc said it didn't mean it wouldn't prevent a miscarriage. She said it wouldn't necessarily help but it couldn't hurt. It did cause me to cramp and spot until I went off of it. All the spotting stopped as soon as I discontinued taking it.

Hello,

What was recommended to you is often prescribed by ob/gyn's.  However, there is NO reliable, convincing evidence that using progesterone in this way decreases the risk of miscarriage.  That said there are no significant side effects or conerning fetal impact.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing
