Vicodin withdrawals while 5 months pregnant...

Vicodin withdrawals while 5 months pregnant...
Jun 05, 2011 07:32PM in the Addiction: Substance Abuse Community
I have been battling severe fibromyalgia and ic/pfd since I was 15 years old. I am now 29 and terrified. I am going on 5 months. I need to know what I can take that will be safe to go thru this horrendous sick feeling. Today is day 3 and I am vomiting, runs, sweats, irritability, restless, insomnia, sinuses, and headache and all-over muscle pain. It is serious, and I am scared for my unborn. I need something that will curb this so I can sleep! Anyone have to go thru this during a pregnancy. This is my first child and I am terrified, even after I get off the meds, will I still be able to be a good mom, knowing my health issues will always linger, and with long-term pain and minimal lifestyle comes depression! Helpppp

You never want to go through withdrawals or fully stop taking anything while pregnant. What you feel, so does baby. You can wean, but it has to be done carefully and completely monitored by a doctor. I understand you want to stop, but pregnancy is definitely not the time to do it if you've been on something for so long. You need to talk to them and figure out a safe plan for you to follow.

I was under the care of my uro and my pain management dr. Unfortunately, my bcbs is no longer in effect. My obgyn is proud I am getting off completely, yet they really do not seem to grasp the severity of withdrawal symptoms. I went yesterday and they told me to take valium low doses and gave me a script for ambien to sleep since I havent slept in more than two days due to the drastic measures of this devastating hit. I am beyond myself here, and can not believe they prescribed valium and ambien. I am in the second trimester now, so they said baby is already developed. But I hear mixed reviews. Many are thinking to just tough it out, but they have NO CLUE the nightmare it entails when you have been on it for 14+ years. LORd, I NEED THE STRENGTH. please.

Hi,

You really should be doing this under a doctor's care hun. We cannot recommend anything here considering your condition. Please see your OBGYN and get some help.

I wish you and your baby the very best.
