Then no, they don't ususally do another pelvic exam. If they don't hear a heartbeat on the doppler they will do an ultrasound which should be able to be see a heartbeat/baby at this point with a regular ultrasound. If that happens you will be suprised how much your baby looks like a baby at this point! I have had to have ultrasounds done at each appointment until 20 weeks because they couldn't find the heartbeat with the doppler - so don't panic if they don't find it right away.
I already had a pelvic exam. I seen and heard the heartbeat at 167 bpm. I wasn't sure if I would be another pelvic exam or not..
12 week appointment is usually a pelvic exam, weight check in, family history, and doppler to find heart beat (don't worry if you don't hear it as it is still early)
