spotting (pink) 5 and 1/2 weeks

I am 5 and 1/2 weeks pregnant accordig to lmp. I had some light pink show when I wiped after using restroom. It went away and came back again the next night, then went away again.  I have no ins now and have an appt w/ medicade in 2 days.  I went to the er 2 days ago because i had some burning in vagina.  They did blood work er doctor said levels are around 16,000.  Had transvaginal ultrasound done, he said it did not show anything in the ultrasound and it could be early prgnancy. They suggested I follow up with an Obstetricain in 3 days. I have not had anymore pink spotting in 2 days, no cramping or pain. I'm afraid that I might be miscarrying or may have an ectopic pregnancy.  It may be awhile before I can get qualified for medicaide. I want to know how long should I wait to see an obstetrician if there is a chance of ectopic pregnancy?  Aren't they dangerous to the mother?

Hi susan,

Thanks for responding.  My due date is Nov 3. I went to the er again a few days ago, having more back pain and severe headaches. They did more blood work and another ultrasound but this time it was an abdominal ultrasound not transvaginal.  They found a sac but no fetal pole or heart beat. My blood hcg levels were still around 16,000. which the er doctor  said should be at least 32,000 being that it was 4 days since my original blood count. I contacted the gynecologist office that th er refered me to they are awaiting my records from hosp, then they are suppose to call me with an appt to see dr. its been 3 days hopefully they'll call me soon,  I really want to know what is going on.  I know it doesn't look good for a successful pregnancy, but waiting around for a threatening miscarriage is depressing.  I just want answers....... tired of waiting....  anyway hope your pregnancy is going well. My best wishes to you and your family and  your pregnacy.. Take care

Hi!
You are probably having what is known as implantation bleeding.  But, you are very right to be concerned about a tubal pregnancy.  With a quantitative beta hcg of 16k, they should be able to see something in your uterus.  I suspect that the ultrasound was poor quality and that everything will be OK--BUT
Call the doctor that you intend to see.  Explain to the NURSE (not the receptionist) that you were seen in the emergency room and that they are concerned about a tubal pregnancy. Medicaid will pay retro-actively in most cases, so if your doctor takes medicaid (don't choose one who doesn't!) he/she will see you BEFORE you get your insurance.  It will just be very important to go through with the process of getting Medicaid as you have already planned.
Tubal pregnancy is the leading cause of pregnancy related death in the developed world--so act now insure later!
Good luck!

I am also 5 1/2 weeks pregnant and had some spotting (reddish) last week - 1 small amount when I wiped. Now today a small amount of brownish spotting. I had a successful pregnancy 3 years ago and 2 miscarriages since then, so I am so nervous about this. I am going to call the doc tomorrow and get blood work to help to reassure me.  I think that having your levels so high - 16,000 should help to reassure you that you have nothing to worry about. When I had my miscarriages, the numbers never went over 6,000 and I was 7 weeks pregnant.  Keep me posted about your pregnancy, and I will do the same.  My due date is Nov 7 - how about you?  email me ***@**** .
