contraction timing... help!

So Im getting contractions.. they're getting closer then further apart!
7, 8 minutes then bam, 20 minutes apart.
but thhey are lasting about 40s each contraction.
could this be early labour? Is this normal?
I am 4 days overdue and 1cm dilated.

Usually once they are regular and 3-5 minutes apart is a good time to go in. If they are irregular it's likely not real labor yet.

I would say just go ahead in go in. Every dr and hospital is different.
