advice

So I'm 15 weeks (tomorrow) with my first child, but it's my bf's second. His son will be 6 when the baby comes. My mother in law kept a lot of his baby stuff and wants me to reuse everything! Now, some stuff i will, some i won't. Especially when it has nasty stains in it. I don't wanna seem ungrateful because I'm not but it's my first child and there's some stuff i just want my baby to have of it's own, especially if it's a boy. How would you feel/handle this?

I agree! I hate when it smells like it's been locked up in a garage somewhere too.

I think its rude of people to offer dirty/stained items!  Whenever I pass down clothing I always take out those items and toss them and only give the nice clean items!

Kennimae i feel you on that. So far shes shown me pillows and clothes and they look used. Like dirty, stained and dingy. I just hope i get almost everything i need at my baby shower (in August or September)

Jess-ann my point exactly lol. And I'm very squeamish. I've babysat and changed plenty gross diapers but now I'm gonna do it full time. And I'm afraid pee or poop will seep thru too

My sister in law was giving me some of her girls stuff. Now her daughter isnt very clean at all and they dont take care of their stuff. They gave me a garbage bag to go through and literally I took maybe 1/4 of the bag and had them deal with the rest. There was stains and rips and such and some were just plain nasty. Its not ungrateful for you to want your kid to have nice things.

Oh ok. I had little mini axienty attack for you girl LOL!!

Cloth diapers can save you money but I can't get over the pooping in them. I mean your gonna have to do the cleaning of poopy underwear when they are potty training and transitioning into underwear.. Why start this yucky stuff so early  >.<

Isn't it bad enough that the little booger is probably going to poop or pee on you at some point anyway?? Lol

Cloth diapers that another child has worn?? WHAT?!?!?!? no ma'am.. I dont blame you! I wouldn't do that!!

I mean cloth diapers are'nt bad but if you got the free diapes then use them. I totally agree.

Thank you! I didn't wanna come off to her as offensive or anything. Like she wants to use only cloth diapers, i don't. I'll try them of course but I'm not gonna wanna wash and reuse, especially when they're poopyor when i may have free diapers while my baby uses them.

You should tell her exactly what you told us. If it was his 6 year old would he re use dirty stained old clothes? No, he would get new ones. Your not being ungrateful, you just want the best for your baby. That seems pretty normal to me..

If it was me I wouldn't even say anything. Just take the stuff with a smile and dont use the things you don't want to use.

That's not seeming ungrateful , it's your first baby so I know how you feel. The things you can use take it & the things you don't want to or just can't , buy them. You have to do what makes you happy at the end of the day. This is special to you . So I know you want the best & your first baby deserves it.
