I have 4 cats and my mother is practically begging for me to find new homes.  And i keep yelling at her, NO WAY. I agree with the other ladies, you should wait and see before you just decide to get rid of them. My doc knows I have them and has said nothing other then stay away from littler which I have since I found out I was pregnant. Hubby has been such a trooper about scooping poop lol. We are having a girl in June and all of our cats are girls so he is feeling way out numbered lol.

You don't just abandon a pet because you're having a baby, and whoever said it causes allergies is a moron. Keep the cats.Keep the claws trimmed, and let your child grow up learning how much fun it is to share in pet ownership :)

Keep them! I have 2 cats of my own and my mother in law (whom i live with) has 2 dogs and a cat. My son LOVES all the animals, the cats being his favorites. He is already learning to be gentle and at 8 months old knows not to pull on their tails or be rough with them. It is also proven that pregnant women and babies have less chance developing allergies if they are in contact with cats.

I have two inside cats and a dog. They are just fine around my baby. My cats mostly pay no attention. (: I'd keep them.

Don't get rid of them! D: I have some good reasons lol

1) Cats don't get spiteful emotions like a sibling might. They might act like attention ****** lol but they won't hurt your baby out of spite. :)

2) It's proven that babies whose mothers were around cats or dogs during pregnancy will have fewer allergies. You can't guarantee your baby won't have animal allergies, but they are less likely to have asthma and seasonal allergies. I read about this in What To Expect When You're Expecting and later my boyfriend showed me a video on it. We own 2 dogs and a cat and have no plans to get rid of them.

3) If your child grows up with a (friendly) cat, it can teach her a lot of things. Think about it. How to properly treat animals and living things. Being gentle. Responsibility. And who doesn't love having a pet?

Don't let your cat lay on your baby's face lol. And if your cat is downright aggressive and unpredictable I would consider rehoming, but for the most part I just see the pros outweighing the con's. I hope this puts you at ease. :) Your cat can still be your baby, even with a real baby coming. <3

We kept our three cats when my son was born and my son is fine. As long as you don't let the cats sleep in the cot with the baby or let the baby pull the cats about to the point they attack back, then there is no reason why you should get rid of them.
If you don't wanna get rid of them then don't but just watch what there like together. X

Even if you decided it wasn't working out after a while and re-homed the cats, at least see how it works at first.  Likely they won't be interested in trying to get into the baby's room to see the baby, or anything that brings them close to the baby.

My two cats are incredibly gentle and loving with my almost 3-year-old son. They have curled up beside him and napped with him since he was born. He can be a little rough with them and they somehow understand that they need to be careful with him because he's little. He's been scratched a few times but he provoked it and has learned to have respect for their sharp claws. I would never have considered giving up the furry members of my family. They both came from shelters because I knew I could give them a forever home, under no circumstances will I ever bring them back.

I dont mean pet allergies. I mean allergies in general. And I meant they could get them if they are to close to the animals for long periods of time because if they breath in hair or dander it causes it. At least in my experience and what ive heard. Doesnt mean it WILL happen just CAN happen.

We didn't get rid of our cats, and it went fine.  Almost all of the cats were frightened of the baby (seeming to think that if they looked at him, I would be mad at them) so all but one avoided him.  Here is the other one and how it turned out:

Actually, it's said to have baby near pets (obviously supervised) so they DONT get pet allergies...at least that's what I read

Personally I wouldnt have any of my pets let near my baby because theyre new to the world and it can cause early on allergies and or asthma.  But if you want to try it out, I would just keep an eye on the cats when they get close to baby and do my best to teach them that baby isnt a toy or another animal.
