depression or self pity.

I used to always say I didn't believe in depression. That it was jusy an excuse to feel sorry for yourself and not do anything. because of my mom who wss always "depressed". But here I am one month after delivery and im miserable. Im 21 with a three year old and my newborn. I feel ao distant from everything especially my husband im sure he doesn't mind but I cant hold a conversation with anyone.I feel like im a horrible mother to my three year old cause I feel like I dont have time to do anything with her now with baby wanting to nurse every hour then trying to get everything done while he naps and before my husband gets home from work. I dont talk to my husband even when were being " intimate" with each other my head is in the clouds and all im thinking about is him with another girl that could probably do more for him then me but im not mad im almost wishing he had someone on the side actually pleasing him (weird I know) i also have noo appitite at all but I think that's just the breastfeeding. Yea my body absolutely disgusts me right now but I wouldn't not eat on purpose im just never hungry which is new to me. I don't wanna hurt myself or anyone. Im not suicidal or starving myself so im probably not even depression. is probably me just feeling sorry for myself but I cant shake it. I try to cry it out but I cant make tears anymore no matter how much I wanna cry when im alone I just cant..

As you're finding, depressive episodes aren't about being sad or feeling sorry for yourself, but are about being dampened.  They are chemical changes in the body, like, for example, getting a migraine.  You've described the classic symptoms of post-partum depression, and the good news is that it is understood and is treatable.  See your doc, he can help you a lot, and you'll feel like normal again.  Call tomorrow and set up an appointment.

This definitely is post partum depression. It's completely normal and many women go through it. You are a good mom but you need a Lil help in the emotional hormonal department and that's ok. Please speak with your Dr about this because you don't have to be feeling this way. Your going to be ok and you will feel better and not so numb. Best wishes sweetie.

I've delt with depression my entire teenage years. It doesnt seem like it would, but talking to someone you love and trust (like your husband) really does help. At least as much as crying it out. Same thing with food/self image happened with me too. I would never intentionally starve myself, but at times I just didn't want to eat. Either it was tedious or disgusting, or both. I'm better now, but I've always just tried to power through it, mind over matter as long as you aren't thinking of hurting yourself or others try just talking it out before resorting to meds.(they never worked for me.) If things get unbearable(or already are), then definately talk to your doctor about it and he/she might set up therapy or meds or both. Good luck, feel better
