going insane with the strain......ing!

ok i know this isnt a pregnancy question but you ladies....and some guys have helped me out so much in the past.
well my little gal is 10 weeks today (no idea where the time went) but from about 3 weeks she strains a lot! and now it seems she strains every second of the day.
i didnt get to sleep last night till 1am as all she did was strain and it causes her to cry as i think it gives her tummy ache. shes not constipated, goes more or less every day and its normal looking. she does have wind (oh boy does she have wind) but she gets rid of it, one way or another if you get my wift! every care provider ive asked says some babies just strain a lot but i did child care and never had a baby do it.
gues my question is has anyone found a "cure" or atleast when can i expect it to stop!

thanks

Maybe ebay or Amazon. There is an Amazon . com as well as . co. uk They might ship them? May be worth a shot...

Dont think we get Playtex over here...my mum reckons they're the best, but a relative in America sent them to her when she had my brother. I may be wrong, but I've never seen the brand on the shelves.

Have you tried Playtex Ventaire Advanced Natural-Shape Bottles? Those work the best on my son and I'll be using them again when this other baby gets here. He used to do that straining and couldn't figure out what his problem was for the longest time. I put him back on Similac Sensitive for fussiness & gas and along with those bottles and he hasn't had that problem anymore. He'll be 11 months old Tuesday.

Aww well, was just a thought, I knew you'd tried everything else! You know, your mum could well be right...thats when my son calmed down, he was much happier when I introduced food...I was really annoyed that I remained stubborn about waiting (despite my mum in law's advice) because the change in him was enormous. As I say he still moaned until he could walk and at 8, still does a good line in whining, but its just his nature, he is getting better as the years go by! Hopefully you wont have to put up with that! lol

Just a thought, what bottles do you use? I used Avent ones for my eldest but have used Tommy Tippee ones since...the teats have an anti colic function and there are other teats which I think are anti colic +....might be worth a try?

ive tried changing her formula and i think all her straining causes her tummy ache. i keep asking midwives, doctors for help but like i said they keep on its normal.

I know, thats the hardest time to stay strong! When she starts sleeping through better you will be able to be tougher during the day, we can cope with so much more when we get our sleep! Until then, you kinda just have to do whatever you can to stay sane! Sleep deprivation is torture. Yeah, I've rarely slept when the kids did during the day...first time I was flapping about and delighted if he slept at all and second time I had a 2 1/2yr old too. This time round I dont need to do much but be aware of where the older 2 are (they're 5 & 8 and we live in a small village) but I have a house with 5 people and 2 dogs, so baby's naps allow me to keep up with the house (kinda!) It does get better and you will feel more human again eventually...it just takes time, its def hardest first time round when you wonder if it will ever end, I promise it does!

My little girl is 13 weeks old and was doing the same thing, I give her equate infants gas relief and put a warm towel on her tummy and it usually helps her.

Sounds like she has a bad tummyache and cant get all the trapped gas out. Letting her cry it out will do no one no good. She is crying for help, not attention. I would call her ped and ask what to do. I had to change my sons formula from all his gas.

Oh I've been there, I would have had some serious thinking to do had I fallen pregnant in the first year after my son arrived, but by the time he was 18 months I'd forgotten how bad it had been...I still say that my daughter being so good was my reward for surviving my son! I wish I could give you a magic cure...thinking back on the frustration and helplessness, I wouldnt put that on anyone. Just remember that if you get stressed, put her down, walk away and take 5 mins to relax yourself, she wont come to any harm in her cot or pram while you do so. They are great at feeding off our stress and will play up on it, my son is now 8 and still can tell if I'm stressed and winds me up, difference being now I can kick him out to play and calm myself down instead of hiding in the toilet (I used to be great friends with my bathroom!) x

Unfortunately I cant help any more than to say thatfor some babies it is normal. My first son was awful, I used infacol, gripe water, I held him on his tummy over my arm, I paced, I did everything I could think of, but he cried and struggled for months. It did improve a little maybe at about 4 months, but the boy cried a lot until he could walk. I feel for you, its so hard to enjoy an unhappy baby,Ispentso long blaming myself for him being unhappy, but when I had my daughter she was a dream and I realised it wasnt me or my fault, baby #3 has been great too (so far) so I do think some babies are just that way. Sorry I'm not more help, but just wanted you to know that you're not the only one to have an unsettled babe and that its nothing you are doing wrong either. She will get better, unfortunately you may just have to ride out the next little while. Might be worth going to baby massage classes, might help relax her and some of the techniques are designed to aid digestion and bowel movements. I've never done it before, but there are pages in the play at home booklet you should have got from the health visitor (unless its different in England from Scotland) that explain how to do some massaging. Good luck x
