losing hope..

I'm trying to have an at home birth with my midwife but my baby is not coming out. Tomorrow I'll be 42 weeks and this is all so depressing. I've been walking everyday, taking all the proper supplements, drinking raspberry tea, using primrose oil, eating pineapple, etc. Some days I feel contractions and some days I feel nothing. And I'm just so sad. I understand babies come when they're ready but I'm worried something is wrong.. I just don't know why it's take so long.. I'm a ftm by the way.

I'm sorry hun but you should deff. Go see a doctor asap for the sake of your baby, my doctor was going to induce me if I didn't give birth by 41 weeks but luckily I did the day I turned 41 weeks pregnant.  Things don't always turn out the way you want to but please go see a doctor asap. God bless & Good luck

smchase,  it's not the size of the baby that becomes a huge risk with overdue babies,  it's the deterioration of the placenta.  The baby does get big,  that's true,  but placentas start to deteriorate at 40 weeks and with every day beyond that,  while the placenta is deteriorating more and more,  it is less and less able to feed/oxygenate the baby.

I did do a quick search online,  because it used to be unheard of to allow a mother to gestate beyond 42 weeks,  and most medical facilities wouldn't even have allowed that.  There does seem to be some controversy that gestating longer is less risky than it used to be believed.

imani,  sometimes babies don't "come when they're ready".  I'd be concerned going past 43 weeks - I'd be concerned going past 41 weeks,  actually,  especially for a first time baby when you don't know if you're one of those women who will never go in to labor.

Are you still feeling lots of movement?

If I were you I'd ask for heartrate checks every other day.

Sorry - I've seen this go badly and err on the side of caution.

Wow I've never heard of anyone going that long before. Hopefully your baby doesnt get too big because delivering a big baby is hard. My first was 9.9 lbs and he tore me all the way to my rectum. Good luck. And maybe just walk around a lot.

Yes my midwife has been seeing my every week during these last 4 weeks. The heartbeat has been perfectly healthy each time.. I guess I'm just still paranoid.
I think she'll let me go to 43 weeks before suggesting induction.

How much longer are they willing to let you go before inducing?

Are you having regular checks for healthy heartbeat?
