low fetal heartbeat

I went to the OB yesterday because I had some red bleeding - very small amount but enough for them to want to me to come in. Good news is we saw our baby - measuring at 5 weeks, 5 days. Bad news is that we thought the heartbeat was slow (u/s tech didn't tell us - she said not to worry and that it would pick up). We estimated it was in the 80s (DH and I are both in the medical field).

At 5 weeks, 5 days, is a heartrate in the 80s too slow? I'm worried sick.

Thanks.

At that stage the heart had just started beating. I wont pick up for about a week or two. At 6w1d my babies heart rate was 95 and then at 7 weeks it was about 180 and then slowed down by like week 12 or so to about 145.

Take a look at this link... it may help ease your mind. It says in the early stages fetal heartrate should be around 80-85 bpm and then substantially pick up. I had my first ultrasound at 5 weeks 6 days and the heartrate was 105, a week later at 6w6days it had gone up to 133bpm. I honestly would not be too concerned about it. Did the doctor suggest coming in again in another week just to check viability? That is what my doctor had me do and everything looked great the next week. I will be 8 weeks tomorrow. Hope this helps.
