narcotics while pregnant

Before i knew i was pregnant i am ashamed to say i was addicted to pain killers i was taking them when i found out i was 15 weeks pregnant and have not been able to completely stop i have minimized it to only a few mg every few days. what are the risks for my baby?  Do they drug test every child at birth and if i stop now at 27 weeks will my baby be clean by birth? Thid is not something I'm proud of by no means but need advice...

I have now been clean 4 days i have not felt my best but i have noticed nothing different with the pregnancy we are doin well and will continue to get better every day.moving myself down slowly helped a lot and i am now so excited for my baby boys arrival In two months by then i am praying there will be no withdrawals from him or me and to anyone that has gone thru this it seems impossible to stop but i just keep tellin myself i love my baby more than those stupid drugs. Thanks for all the advice. if anyone has any other advice on how to make his withdrawals go away faster i would appreciate the help

Legally speaking, I don't think your doc can call social services. He or she is bound by ethics and laws. They don't even get to tell if the cops chime asking unless the cop has a warrant (at least in the USA). I would get help and advice from your doctor. Honestly it would have been better to have let your doc know in the beginning, but all you can do now is make sure baby's gonna be okay.

Be careful just stopping without contacting a doctor.. babies can have withdrawal symptoms. So If you are adamant about not telling then be extra aware of your body and be checked if you suspect anything strange. You shouldn't test positive stopping now though

I am too affraid to involve my dr that he will
contact social services. all my appointments have
shown no problem with the baby. i am lowering my use every day
but since i am 90 days from my due date i have decided to
completely stop now. will my baby still test positive i know
it will be out of my system but don't know about the baby?

Please get advice from your doctor! !! They will be able to help stop safely and they need to know just in case the baby needs medical attention

You have to stop and let your doctor help you do it. Good for you for taking steps to make this change.   It's a risk with involving your doctor but your baby is more important.

Yes, they drug test every child and mother. We adopted a baby and the birth mother failed a drug test at 27 weeks. The doctor told her she would be tested again and if she failed child protective services would be involved.  At deliver they taped plastic bags with cotton around my daughter's private area to collect urine samples and tested for drugs. It was an awful experience to see my baby going through that...

Certain narcotics are okay to take while pregnant (obviously not in excess though) so while anything you do could possibly affect baby I think you should be fine if it's honestly only a couple of milligrams every couple days. I would tell your doctor though so they are aware. They do drug test every child I believe so I would stop asap if I was you! You can do it! I've been addicted to pain meds for years but it was either that our my kids and for me that was a no brainer! Wish you all the luck mama! Stay strong!
