This is from 2011... I'd be surprised if the same people would comment on this lol. Good luck to you though.
Hi mami2karina,
Thanks for sharing. Do you know of the hospital or doctors who performed the amnioinfusions for your friend? I am in a similar situation to ceejay's and I have been searching for doctors who will perform this procedure. Please respond as soon as possible with any info as time is of the essence! Thanks.
My friends water broke at 24 weeks and they kept her in the hospital and did amnioinfusion until 36 weeks. Her baby was born with cerbal palsy though. And had several tumors all over his brain. She's had a hard time but he turned 2 in September and is doing extremely well! Doing things they said he would probably never be able to do. Get a second opinion.
I'd wait it out a bit but the baby does need the fluid to develop properly and for the lungs to develop, I hope things work out for you but there arnt that many success stories from this situation
I'll keep you and your baby in my prayers xx
You should get a second, and maybe even third opinion before even considering terminating the pregnancy. Doctors CAN perform an amnioinfusion. You would be in the hospital until the baby was born but it would infuse the womb with amniotic fluid that the baby needs.
With my first pregnancy I had very low fluid, I ended up with an emergency c-section at 40 wks 3 days becuase I had NONE left. My daughter was born small (18 1/4" and 4 lbs 15 oz), she was very dry and bent in the wrong places. She spent 4 days in the NICU until she reached 5 lbs and she was discharged fromt he hospital. She straightened out and is now a very healthy 14 yo.
If you can atleast get your baby to 24-26 weeks, then baby would have a chance at survival if born early. The age of viability is 24 weeks and each week after that the baby stays in the womb increases the survival rate. I would NOT just take this doctors word for it. I'm not sure amnioinfusion is an option since your membrane is still intact but it's worth checking into.
If it were ME in your position, I would NEVER consider termination. I would get other opinions, inquire about amnioinfusion and if that cuold not be done I would still wait and see what happens. You just never know. Babies have survived far worse. One thing you can do to try and help is to make SURE you stay PLENTY hydrated...you needs lots and lots of water. Stay away from salty foods and anything that's a diuretic like caffiene.
Good luck, I hope everything works out for you!
I agree with alaysha, I read about this women and she didnt have any fluid but managed to carry her baby I think it was to 26 weeks, but the baby didnt survive cause the lungs were of a 23 weeker and thats when she lost her fluid. But anything can happen but I would def get a second opinion as well.
Im really sorry, I wish the best for you <3
Hi there
I had a friend who's water broke at 20 weeks in her pregnancy and she lost all her fluid. They were not sure the baby would make it. She had to remain in the hospital and was actually left in a tilted angle to keep all pressure off the cervix and was not allowed to get up. She managed to get more fluid each day. The fact the membrane is still in tact is hopeful. I would be getting a second opinion and see what they think. I am sorry you are going through this and will keep you in my thoughts that everything works out.
Babies need amnionic fluid for development in general and most importantly develop of the lungs since they breathe the fluid in and out to practice before birth. Honestly it doesn't sound good. I am so sorry you have to make such a tough decision. I will keep you and your family in my prayer.
