Sarah makes a good point about the hospital. :) I could not find the blog but you can google self pay for prenatal care ect and do some research. Also call around and talk to different obgyns and see what you can work out.

Maybay is right, plus only get the really necessary testing, lab tests add up fast!  And youd be surprised how many are just extra.  Our hospital had a special program for self pay, if you pay in advance we were able to save over 4000 just for that!

If you do self pay there are ways of reducing hospital costs also. I read a ladies blog about her out of pocket birth. She was saying bring your own ibuprofen because they charge like 7$ pill or more. Also that when they offer you stuff just remember its not free. If I can find the blog  again I will link it.

Oh and most will give you a discount if your able to pay in full, or have a sliding scale based on income, and different sorts of financial assistance if you qualify.  I would at least get in there asap and hopefully you end up getting your insurance worked out!

This is my third self pay baby and the third different hospital/ ob. Its been the same at every one.  My sister in law has also been self pay at a different hospital three times, and its been the same for her.  Most doctors have no problem taking someone that doesnt have insurance.  Just call and ask them.  They bill it as a total package, not just individual appointments.  The er would probably cost at least half my total bill for one visit.  If not more!

Most hospital ER will see you and you will get billed. Yea it costs money but it let her know the baby is okay. I haven't heard of OBs billing after the fact...but I don't know everything :) I only see women get turned away because of no insurance. Maybe a woman's clinic as well will see you. But I  would definitely hound whoever you contacted for insurance.

Just call an ob, most take self pay with no problem.  We dont have insurance either, and have no problem getting care.  Our doctor doesnt bill till after delivery, then you can set up payment arangments with the hospital.  I wouldnt do the er necause that will cost you a fortune!

Call and hound whoever you contacted for insurance. Take your prenatal vitamins. Maybe take a trip to the hospital ER and tell them your bleeding and pregnant. They should then do an ultrasound and let you know  if everything is okay. Sign up for state ssistance if you have to. If eligible you will get healthcare
