So my friend had her first baby, all natural, no medication 3 weeks ago. She had contractions all night/morning. Went in and was a 6. She said it hurt, but it wasn't terrible. 3 hours later she was an 8 and that's when she said it got bad. But her nurse talked her through it and she got to a 10 in less than an hour and gave birth. She said she was surprised how much she had to push, ha! He was 7.12 and she had a second degree tear. She said she didn't even feel it. It's nearly healed now. Hope that helps!

I'm 20, and a first time mom as well. I have been seriously considering the same thing. I've been told the epidural can leave the baby drowsy. I'd love to hear others opinions as well, and what others have done.

I got an epidural and whatever else they wanted to give me lol...epidural does NOT do anything to your baby. Talk to your doctor about it! I was perfectly awake and able to have the emotions of birth and that moment they handed me my daughter for the first time. The only side effect was I had a bruise for a few months following the birth. Nothing now! It was worth it for me. My only experience with a natural birth was the lady screaming her head off down the hall from me. Good luck! XOXO

I had my first child back in November and felt the same. I wanted no pain relief but wait until your in the situation and see how much u can handle the pain! Plus you don't know what's gonna happen. I got pre-eclampsia and ended up being induced and then labour stopped so I need the drug to speed things up which makes contractions stronger... Then I said yes to everything!

Im preggers with my second girl... .39 weeks.....with my first I said the same thing no meds.....I hate needles and epidural kinda scared me......lol but then the contractions hit pretty bad when I was at 7 and I finally gave in I was exhausted already....I was induced but went in Friday morning at 830am had her sunday night at 823 was in active labor for over 24 hours didnt sleep saturday night or all sunday....so tired was an understatement. Lol I was falling asleep while pushing. But in the end glad I got the epidural because it was something else getting my lil girl into this world.....ahe tore me in two places! Lol so I say try as hard as you can for as long as you can.....but dont be disapointed if u do change your mind. Its all worth it in the end.

I had both my sons naturally. no pain meds. it was a very empowering experience and u will at some point beg to be on meds or to quit. but if u can handle the pain its a great experience. now with my third though I'm thinking about an epidural because he's bigger than my last baby and that labor was horrific and long and with no meds I def felt the worst pain of my life. I spent the hole 16 hours of labor begging for it to be over and crying and screaming and throwing up. if u have a high pain tolerance then I'd try it. but I'm considering meds just so I can enjoy this birth rather than beg for it to be over.

I had my first at 16 with no epidural or pain meds i had my mind made up & stuck to it. It's easy to give in because your in so much pain, but after labor I felt wonderful & back to normal. I wasn't drowsy or numb. I'm scared of a big needle Going up my back I rather feel the pain of my kids birth and get to experience it naturally. I'm 21 now and having my second I plan on doing it the same way! (= you can always just try if it's too much get the epidural but it's good to see how long you go, after an 8 they won't give you it so if you can make it to there your good! Good luck (=
